Kiefer Sutherland has tweeted : With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.

Excellent legend with a wide career with MASH to Space Cowboys and many others. RIP

My late Gran met him many many years ago when he was filming over here. She said not only was he really friendly but a gentleman too. R.I.P. Donald.

He lived in the UK in the sixties, and worked in British Films, Theatre and TV and was in classic UK shows The Saint & The Avengers.

Brilliant in pretty much everything he was in. Backdraft rarely gets a mention these days but he stole the show which takes some doing when you're working with De Niro.
