The Bottom Line
Steve Clemons talks to John Feehery in studio about what lessons might be learned from last week's Mamdani et al wins, then later down the line to a former US ambassador Michael McFaul about US foreign policy failures and the future.

3/4
The easy format wobbles here when they keep talking about the Secret Garden and the Railway Children, then they struggle to be nice about Enid Blyton and Rudyard "dead kids" Kipling, before tackling more real-life traumas with Kenneth Grahame.

4/4 The final ep spends quite a while on the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, squeezes in the Riddle of the Sands, and then goes into reflection of the themes of the series, whether class, or grief, etc.

I think I got more out of this series than the other one (and one to go).

Unlike their look at Flash Gordon, they didn't really bother with Queen's soundtrack, which seems a bit weak. But nice of them to look at something more modern than they usually try to.
CM: The Railway Children
In a handy coincidence, a look at the film version, which moves the action from Kent to YORKSHIRE, and given the political overtones, it was a competitor for the same year's Kes. The ending has everybody cheering when Iain Cuthbertson turns up. Damn right.

8.3 Quite a change of scene with a trip to the Rochdale canal, where Bob revisits his past and catches up with an old friend, whilst Paul catches up with a perch. They later move to the river Dare, where Paul catches a grayling, and the weather changes drastically and eventually for the better.
M&W: GF
8.4 To Herefordshire to catch a big perch, which they supposedly haven't done ever before (?) An exclusive spot at a 12th century lake (pond, really) produces a carp, but a later visit to the river Wye leads to a chub and a small perch. And Ted gets a massage. Whilst Bob sees a future in self-help.

Last Week Tonight w/John Oliver
Last in the present series, with a major piece of the prospects for American Public Media since Team Trump cut its funding, as part of its false economy savings plans.

12.7 Better results from better sitters, as Jack Dee, Jacob Collier and Fatiha El-Ghorri lead to good results and a half-decent shortlist, with a previous contestant not doing any better, and a curious gimmick winner.
PAotY 2025
12/8 Blimey, already time for the last heat, with Tim Peake leading to interesting results, writer Jack Rooke leading to some odd results, and dancer Reece Clarke leading to one very good portrait rejected in favour of a rather quirkier one.
