Football Banter

I bet if the players pay was performance - related it probably would be a different story...Don't forget English (or was it all British clubs?) clubs were banned from Europe for five years following Heysel Stadium riots. I think suddenly the thinking behind cricket teams has suddenly crept into football, i.e. the European teams find a different way to play against or British teams somehow have become too predictable and easy to play against. It certainly is the first time I can remember in a long time not seeing a British team in the quarter finals of any European club competition.
I would not be surprised if at the FA AGM whenever it takes places this topic is discussed. I would be concerned too about how much I had paid for TV rights if I was a BT Sport director too. They must be just as worried about their rights for not only the CL but also the PL seeing how it quickly developed into a procession by Chelski.
At the moment I would say European clubs have a slight upper hand against British clubs, how I don't know, but certainly in some cases tactically some clubs set up tactically for a European game and their opponents have quickly got round it.

Still think the EPL is grossly overrated, why do the TV people pay so much money for it? Only 2 of the teams have any chance of winning it, and the rest are scrambling for euro spots or trying to avoid relegation.

I'll stick with the piss poor SPL...

Yes and on a rare occasion the ref actually sent off the right player

I find it unbelieveable that Gerrards apology on twitter following his disgraceful stamp on Herrera was greeted by Piers Morgan with the comment, 'Well done, a Classy apology'. Classy? How? By apologising to his team mates and fans for letting them down? Thats to be expected and does not make it classy. Something else perhaps? What about apologising to the player who he stamped on?
I really can't understand how certain pundits and sports journalists crow on about Steven Gerrard as though he is something special. Just another overpaid and over-hyped footballer. Dedicated to his team and motivating when in his prime yes, but he has never been the world class performer some seem to suggest. Can you just imagine the reaction if it had been Rooney or Terry who had committed such an act.
