I don't know who devises the ranking system but he needs his head examined. It would be like Italy qualifying for the knockout stages of the world cup rugby and as a result, bring rated higher than South Africa. Don't even get me started on How either England, Wales or Australia will be watching the knock out stages of the world cup rugby from home whilst Scotland or Italy could be competing. No doubt about there are idiots in high places in sport as there is in life.

I really am convinced that FIFA want teams like England Ireland Scotland northern Ireland Germany and holland to qualify for the finals because of the revenue they bring to the host nation. I remember in the 2004 euros there was a holiday resort in portugal where most of the England supporters stayed and; the local industry made more money in that weekend than they did for the whole holiday season.
Boozy tourist are usually good for the economy.

The one thing that I would say there must be a different system for rakings in rugby than there are in football and say cricket.
One thing I will say that in this campaign that as far as Wales are as far as I'm concerned, have probably been just as consistent with their performances as England have been, but they have played far more consistently defensively than England sometimes do.

And when you look at Rugby England have dropped to 6tyh in the world while Ireland are third and Wales fifth and Scotland in 10th.
and I don't remember if England were the No.1 team in the world when they won the Rugby World cup!!
I'm sure Italy have never been past the rugby World Cup Quarter finals and wonder if the rugby World Cup would benefit from an increase in teams participating or not. But I guess the recent rugby loss to France didn't do England any favours either

Certainly I agree I'd like to know what would get England back amongst the top 10 nations if they qualify for next summer. I guess that would only happen if they reached the Final or won it!!

The thing is in this campaign we have won every game. What do England have to do just to keep their ranking yet alone enhance it?

In regard to the 2003 rugby world cup we were ranked no1. Which was fair enough we beat the southern hemisphere team home and away and completed the grand-slam in the year leading up to the tournament.
No one could say that was controversial.

Who thinks it would be really funny if all the home nations and ireland apart from scotland made it to the Euro's

Yeah but we havent beat a top 10 side Wales beat belgium

Wales could get to 2nd if certain things happen like germany lose points and belgium lose to cyprus

It would be funny if Scotland were the only home nation not to qualify. However as funny as it was when they first started to decline I'm now wanting them to revive their fortunes. We need a neighbouring nemesis. I suppose wales football team could emulate the rugby team and replace Scotland as our major home nation rival.
As for the possibility that Wales could end up higher ranked than Germany that really would be taking the piss. Be like Scotland being more Highly ranked than the All Blacks at rugby based on one impressive group campaign.
Im pretty sure Switzerland were in top 5 at least top 10 when they lost to England. You can explain the reasoning behind the rankings till you are blue in the face but you will never convince me that the ranking system is anything but a load of bollocks.

In that case which was the last top 10 side England did beat before the last World Cup and this year?

Setter mate, I'm not after an argument with u I was just making point, and if it wasn't in the right context then I apologise but I just think to get anything like back in the top half of the top in FIFA ranking context would probably mean us getting to the final or winning the Euros next summer..

And we have a lot live up to from September 15th and it is not an easy game to kick off with by any standards

Was beating Brazil in a Friendly in 2013 2-1 then would be a 1-0 win against spain in 2011
