MI5 also have the ability to spy on you via web cam enabled Smart TV's, when I heard this the other week I threw my 50 inch Plasma in the dump, it was less than two years old. Gone back to using an old CRT.

Next generation TVs will be gesture controlled, meaning they will be constantly monitoring your hand movements. Probably best to keep your hands straight by your side while watching Rachel Riley on Countdown.

that's pretty extreme, if true. you should have just given it to your mum
to butter her up a bit so you can ask her to keep the porn filter switched off

I think its quite sensible, if his TV may (without his agreement) pass on details of his sexual based viewing to David Cameron, whilst an older TV which is not internet connected does not then for him, this may be the better solution.
I dont know how old Money-Bang is but he has stated he lives with parents, if he is upstairs watching a program on babestation (or red light central to appease SMC) thinking he is undetected and his father then loses his job because his house is blacklisted as pervert central then there could be a number of problems he has to deal with.

I think even offering your mother some cut price electrical items would not soften the embarrasment of asking his strict parnets if he can turn the porn filter off so he can stream sexstation and put "one of those girlie shows" on in the evening

Indeed Mido, things are pretty difficult for poor old Money Bang at the moment.

I'm sure his mother will not be best pleased at his wasteful throwing away of a perfectly good (though compromised) 50" plasma. She will no doubt spank his bottom later, but she should be warned not to do this in front of her new MI5-enabled smart TV, as it could be misconstrued by those cool types at Thames House. She will also end up on a pervert list and be unable to be a dinner lady, should she apply for such a position.

Just a word of warning for those with Humax Freeview PVRs. What Mido says, although seemingly far-fetched, seems to be happening.

My machine auto-updated its firmware recently. Last night I tuned into some babe stations as I normally do and this morning at 6am I was awoken by loud banging on the front door. I thought it might be the milkman wanting to be paid but when I opened the door, who was standing there but Claire Short and Diane Abbott!

Unbelievable. They proceeded to give me a right bollocking, then stormed off. This is the slippery slope.

Look on the bright side, if this was happening a few years ago, you might have been confronted by Ann Widdecombe!
Nobody deserves that.

It's the isp's who operate the filters not you. You simply have the option to switch them on or off, and in some cases, choose from categories of sites to block. The lists of sites that actually get blocked often come from other groups who compile their lists based on various criteria, and use algorithms to determine if things like images may contain nudity (hence many museum and art sites becoming blocked)!

So the control you have over the filter is minimal at best and that is one of the big issues against it. Many legitimate sites fall victim to these filters as well.

From what I've heard it's likely that the filters will allow the whitelisting of sites, so the user will therefore be the one in control. You will also be able to add sites that you think the filter missed or ones that you just choose to block. So I don't agree that the control I have over the filter is minimal at best. Once these things are properly up and running I'm confident that if I choose to use a filter I will be able to use it as I wish.
