This begs the question; when was the last time, if ever, have Ofcom investigated a programme when such a small number of people made a complaint?

Presumably they look into every individual complaint. What Ofcom should also take into account is the ratio of complaints v number of viewers. Two complaints against a show that must get several million viewers! The authorities are so scared of upsetting this or that minority that a sense of humour will soon be illegal in this country.

The thing is, they admitted it. OFCOM would have its work cut out if people confessed to complaints and then they went "ah, stuff it".

RE: Top Gear
From what I understand TG premier shows regularly pull in 8 million plus viewers, bodies like OFCOM (I deal with OFGEM a lot) rarely deal with cases based on ratio of complaints or anything like that. With them its all about looking like they're working in the interests of the general public and flexing their bureaucratic muscles in the press and making a few quid along the way in fines.

With that popularity they know the BBC will always cough up the fines (the money part) and be forced to make a public statement telling the TG staff off (the flexing of muscle part) lol, its proper bullshit when you get in to it

I haven't read anything about Ofcom fining the BBC, or Top Gear, over this particular matter.

Huh

Huh

It might have been a warning or not even worth anything other than a mention in their despatches.
These regulatory bodies are all the same. They are politically motivated so if, for instance, a viewers group or a 'representative' body like Mumsnet makes a lot of noise then the regulators need to be seen to take action or at least acknowledge their complaints. Otherwise it makes the government look bad. One thing for sure Cameron and his gang may be devoid of social policies but they know how to react to what they perceive is public pressure. As always it's the noisy few who dictate what the silent majority will receive.

Jeremy Clarkson 'not racist' says BBC chief.

This is a strange one because I thought Cohen initially wanted Clarkson to be sacked after that 'slope' business.

Huh

It never ceases to amaze me that the Racist card gets played against them over & over (sadly, with good cause in some cases) when the Homophobic card is never used, yet it seems to occur far more often.
