Shan, you're right about a lot of it being down to politics and unemployment. The two countries are suffering still from a political power struggle. They haven't found their identity and sadly these sort of groups prey on the weak.
Right wing groups used to exist within some if not all English firms once upon a time. Our country was once sick, and anyone who thinks our country is a sinking shit hole or on it's knees, one look at that programme will tell you just how far we've come as a nation. We might have a massive national debt, high unemployment rates, OFCOM, a "recession" and poor cycle routes our trains might not run on time and our government and police forces might be as corrupt as FIFA, but at least the majority of us Brits wouldn't just stand by and watch people getting beaten up for the colour of their skin at a football match.
The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
