It's true if a comedy is good you don't need canned laughter, totally agree with you Firekind.

RE: Red Dwarf - Back to Earth Episodes
Weren't the BBC episodes filmed partially in front of an audience and the laughter looped in to the VT segments as the audience saw it? If that's the case, Dave's budget probably didn't run to a studio big enough for an audience with everything they spent on CGI...

i think it cost them less to do the CGI than build the sets just for 3 eps.

plus the Coronation street set is already there!! I had a hunch they were going to go to Coronation street once I read a bit about the Eps and the title.

well i was pleasently suprised. only caught the second half of tonights episode and was laughing at it. i like the premis of them coming to an earth where there a tv show... but to many plugs for a hoped series 9.

I'm still gonna watch the last one tomorrow ,but the whole being characters in real life scenario has been done before e.g.*and I know lots of ideas have been used numerous times ,so Red Dwarf isn't the first to copy an idea, just thought it was a bit cheesy.

*The League of Gentleman film for one.

Who knows it may all still turn out to be Better Than Life or even part of the Virtual reality game they once never played???? Back To reality?!

RE: Red Dwarf - Back to Earth Episodes
I get the impression that it's a tester for a ninth series. If the numbers are good, Dave may shell out for a full run on it, which would be nice. What would be even nicer would be to have both of the original writers working on it again, but that seems very unlikely indeed.

I enjoyed tonights show a lot more than the first one. There were a lot more jokes and much less exposition than last night. I'm OK with metafiction as a concept, so long as it's either really elegantly done or completely anarchic. Red Dwarf is more than capable of doing either one, so it should be fun to see tomorrows episode.

Would be great if Rob Grant and Doug Naylor got back together, better jokes and would be nice to end on a high!
