Pillowpants I was watching Americas game 1980 with as you know the raiders talking about their superbowl run.

To a man all the players said how much Al Davis was responsible for the success and promoting a great club culture. Why do you think his methods are not working now? do you feel that he might be past it? or maybe his methods which were successful in his hey day are now obsolete and no longer workable in the modern era?

Great win today for the Steelers, in a reversal of fortune it was a good 4th quarter this week with 14 points coming from a fumble and an interception. Didn't see the game, but from what I've read there was some poor referee decisions that helped them get the win but to be honest I couldn't care less... Tongue

Sadly, where once Al Davis was an originator and a man with ideas ahead of his time,he's now become a bit of a parody of himself. The NFL has now become such a collossal buisness, that there isn't room any more for the 'maverick' owner, especially one who's the owner of the smallest franchise in the NFL,one that's playing in a crumbling stadium and one that's caused the administrators of the game no end of embarrassment over the years.
The days of Draconian owners in the NFL have long gone, the franchises that have and will have success are the ones that are run professionally without interference by the owners in the football side of things.Look at the league the most successful teams The Patriots/Steelers/Colts/Giants,the coaches have control and the owners don't interfere,on the flip side owners like Al Davis/Dan Snyder and too a lesser extent Jerry Jones, who constantly undermine the coaches, whether it be by meddling in team affairs, bringing in players/coaches without consultation, media outbursts or placing coaches under pressure with unrealistic demands, will struggle to find consistency or long term success.

On a different tangent, the Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger last week signed a bill for the construction of a brand new 75,000 football stadium in Los Angeles.New Home for The Raiders maybe?

All the optimism built up last week after The Raiders shock win over The Eagles, soon disapeered after JaMarcus fumbled the ball with the first possession and then threw two interceptions,D'OH!!!!
Tom Cable finally put The Nation out of its misery by benching Russell in the second quarter and replacing him with Bruce Gradkowski, made no difference whatsoever,Cable has already said that Russell will start sunday against The Chargers.
Had to laugh at the sight of Jets QB Mark Sanchez scoffing a hot-dog on the sidelines late in the game, all that was missing was a hammock and a cold beer. Big Grin

I almost forgot. How bout them cowboys ye ha. I thought Romo was superb and to win so easily after being 7 down after Atalanta's first drive was a great effort. I'm sure brummie and poolieguy share my joylaugh
