RE: NFL 2009/10
Having just watched my beloved Steelers lose at Heinz Field to the Bengals when I thought they were a lock to win who knows who will be in the Super Bowl. I've followed the NFL for many years and it's a matter of getting into the playoffs and getting hot - the Steelers in 05-06 were a prime example of that. Having said that I like the Steelers chances of making the playoffs - and the Bengals seem like the real deal... The Patriots should wrap up the AFC East, the Colts look like a lock for the South but the West looks quite close between Denver and San Diego but they're both flawed teams. The Texans could be dark horses for a wild card as they can move the ball.

The NFC has the Vikings as the team to beat with the Saints pretty close in terms of talent but the rest of the conference looks pretty weak to me. Not that impressed by any team in the east or west to be brutally honest although I'd think there are a few Cowboy fans out there thinking that they have a shot.

Oh Dear!!! No excuses for The Raiders last night, for the first time this season we had a fully fit offence,AND WE STILL SUCKED ASS!!!
Just when i think it can't get any worse Sky Sports announce they will be showing The Raiders @ The Cowboys live on thanksgiving day eek oh the horror,on the cringeometer i reckon 10 out of 10 at least, the first person who makes a crack about "it's not just the turkey that got a good stuffing!!!" will get a cyber kick up the bum. Big Grin

Great games last night, how about those Bengals, totally impressed with them.

What was Bill Belichick thinking going for it on fourth and two on their own 30,it's probably one of the worst decisions i've ever seen,at least give your defense a chance to stop Manning.

The Raiders will trade a first round pick in the off-season to get Hunter the punter as our new QB. (you heard it here first) Big Grin

Funny how the two New York teams have slipped so badly recently, many experts were predicting a subway superbowl.A case of Karma striking back maybe? The Giants LB Antonio Pearce mocked The Raiders after they gave us a tanking, and The Jets celebrated beating us by pouring Gatorade over Bill Callaghan like they had just won a championship.
The Moral of the story don't diss The Raiders. Rolleyes

I have heard this criticism of belicheck a lot but personally i see no problem with the call. After all the Pats were moving the ball with ease on the Colts D for most of the game. I saw the quote below on another forum and couldnt agree more

Quote:Get that first down and you win the game. I reckon the chances of the Pats converting 4th and 2 and the Colts driving 70 yards for the TD in that time are about the same, the only difference is who do you want in control of the ball? To quote Gene Hackman in the Replacements, 'Winners always want the ball'.

They went for it, they came up short, it happens. I can't fault the call though.

I disagree with you Poolieguy. I think you should have a "make them win the game philosophy". If they punted it to say the colts 20 yard line it would have been a totally different proposition then just outside the patriots 30 yard line. Peyton only had to do one big play to win the game with medium risk.

If they punted it they would have had to take multiple risks and execute multiple big plays. If the colts won from there you would just have to hail Peyton Manning's greatness safe in the knowledge that you did not help them in achieving the win in any way.

I can see how it is easy to be critical of Belichik's decision and I've not got round to watching the game in full yet as I want to watch it one go but it appears that it was a reasonable decision. Why? The short answer is that the Patriots defense is not what it used to be whereas the offence is potent and should have made the 2 yards. The long answer is best provided by Gregg Easterbrook in his excellent Tuesday Morning Quarterback column on Page 2 of ESPN.

The Patriots can still go to Indianopolis in January and win...

RE: NFL 2009/10
I stand by my opinion that Bill Belichick made a big mistake, but i guess Belichick's decision will be debated from now untill the end of the season.

For every person who agrees with the call, there's a person who disagrees with it.I guess it comes down to what each persons philosophy on football is.Me i would have punted and made Manning beat my defence, you never know a sack, false start or hopefully an interception might occur, who knows?

One thing though if Belichick hasn't got faith in his defence in a regular season game,it doesn't bode well for the post season if he has to rely on defence to win a game.

But at the end of the day does Bill Belichick care about what anybody anywhere thinks...............nah.

Another tough loss for the Steelers and again highlights their inability to score points in the redzone

Surprised no-one has mentioned the joke defensive pass interference call in the Colts win though that gave them 30 something yards. So I can see why Belichick went for it on fourth down, if they had the ball the officials can't make bogus calls

Must note I'm a Steelers fan, just thought the call ruined it a little

There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
