Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis scored a sensational KO victory in the early hours this morning by knocking out #4 Ranked Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson with a Superman Punch in the 2nd Round.Making the step up in weight class from Lightweight to Welterweight the always entertaining former Lightweight champ Pettis known for utilizing the cage for spectacular moves responded by receiving blows from Thompson in the 2nd to bounce of the cage & score a perfectly timed Superman Punch KO of his own.

must be the biggest upset in UFC for a while. Hope Stephen is okay and while I think McGregor Vs Pettis ould be a great fight I think McGregor probably will find him a tough nut to crack. with the win over Thompson, Pettis becomes only the third fighter with wins at three different weights.

CONOR MCGREGOR HAS ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT?????!!!!

He's made his money in the Mayweather fight and has ongoing family commitments so I'm not surprised.

There are two types of fighters in the fight game; those with that burning desire to fight & generally put fighting first & money second & those who are driven purely by money & with less of a desire to actually fight.How active a fighter is often suggests whether their heart is in it or desire is still there with active fighters like Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone who fight 3 - 4 times a year regardless if they have won or lost previously. And with fighters like McGregor who barely fight once or twice a year if your lucky suggests they are more money motivated.They often say that the heart or desire of a fighter can be judged in the face of a defeat or a loss (& how they bounce back) & McGregor was ruthlessly exposed in the Khabib fight.Whether such a loss has fuelled his lack of desire to fight anymore or whether McGregor is playing the canny game of playing the retirement card until UFC (or any other organization) come calling with more money only time will tell.

^ I think his heart & desire to fight was as hungry as ever at the beginning, but fame & fortune has definitely also played a part in McGregor's career, and who can really blame him? It's really quite apt that his nickname should be 'The Notorious ' because amongst all the UFC fighter's he has reached an unparalleled global recognition.
And that's something as a UFC fan I will most certainly tip my hat to.
I think we may yet see him fight in the Octagon again someday as he is only 30, but if he's leaving to spend time with his family and enjoy his earnings then I say good luck to him and I wish him all the best.

Two classic fights headlined UFC 236 in the early hours Sunday Morning when Israel Adesanya beat Kevin Gastellum for the Interim Middleweight Title where both fighters were rocked with huge shots landing on both chins with Adesanya claiming a points decision over the 5 rounds where both fought at a frenetic pace.Both fighters showed tremendous conditioning & punch resistance throughout the full 25 minutes.

Not to be outdone by the Adesanya/Gastellum classic moments before Dustin Poirier beat Featherweight Champion Max Holloway over 5 rounds to claim the vacant Interim Lightweight title in another classic.Poirier had previously inflicted Holloway's first UFC loss back in 2012 & this anticipated rematch didn't disappoint despite Holloway being rocked several times in the 1st round by some heavy blows.Holloway's tremendous conditioning & punch resistance came into play where he rallied back & rattled Poirier several times but it wasn't to be with Holloway's face resembling a crimson mask sustained by a nasty cut to the head by a Poirier jumping knee in the 4th.Both fighters laid out everything on the line the ring with Poirier winning a points decision, the vacant UFC Lightweight strap & a Mandatory position for Khabib Nurmagomedov's title when he comes back from suspension.

There are reports from UFC that Lesnar is retiring and the fight between Cormier and Lesnar has been shelved and it is a possibility that Cormier will be have a re - match with Stipe Miocic who he KO'd in the 1st Rd at UFC 226. For me the only other logical opponent would be Jon Jones thr only man to have beaten Cormier, and make a trilogy of it.

What with the hectic final day of the season this past Sunday completely forgot me to post that on UFC237 in the early hours of Sunday morning Women's Straw-Weight Champion 'Thug' Rose Namajunas lost her title in the 2nd round against Jessica Andrade where Andrade effectively ended the fight by pulling off a 'pile-driver' like move lifting Namajunas in the air for her to land badly on her head & force a stoppage.Defeated former champ Namajunas said she is contemplating retirement after the defeat as her 'love for the sport' isn't there anymore.

On the UFC237 undercard UFC legend Anderson Silva may have had his last fight after suffering a terrible knee injury forcing a 1st round stoppage at the hands of Jared Cannonier in their Middleweight match-up.Silva who suffered a terrible leg-break in his rematch against Chris Weidman several years ago & contemplated retirement then may be forced to quit this time with a knee injury.
