RE: Celebrity Big Brother 2012
My problem with all this is not the housemates, but the impact Ofcom are having on the show. Big Brother is now basically unwatchable, and I think it's high time Channel 5 got together with all their rival stations and had it out with the regulators, IN COURT. Last night, we saw some of the most tame, timid camerawork ever witnessed on any reality show. The result was a dull, nay, excruciatingly vapid excuse for a production, which left me feeling the producers should grow some balls and stick it to Ofcom right on the nose!
It never used to be like this. In the good old days, you'd see people arguing, farting or whatever it is they do on Big Brother, IN CLOSE UP, with the kind of fearless camera work every adult viewer has a right to expect. But not now. These days we've got three, four or even five housemates to a screen, and I for one think it's a pathetic joke, and an insult.
Then there's the interruptions. Don't even get me started on this! At regular intervals the show is interrupted by a long string of adverts which have NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PROGRAMME, and which COMPLETELY OBSCURE THE ENTIRE SHOW FOR UP TO FIVE MINUTES at a time!!!
Worse still... and capital letters do not seem enough here... but anyway… IT'S THE SAME HOUSEMATES, AGAIN AND AGAIN, NIGHT AFTER NIGHT!!!! And why are the best housemates always the ones who get the least screentime? This can only be bias on the part of the producers, who simply don't realise that if they stopped giving all the screen time to the usual suspects and gave the others a chance, they'd make a hell of a lot more money. Some of the housemates who hog the screen for most of the show aren't even busy! It's just ridiculous.
Oh yeah, and this... two words: VOICE OVER!!!!!... WTF????!!!!! Why does it need a voice over???!!! The voice over dude should be on the beds, or the chairs, or whatever... But then that's another problem because he's taking screen time away from the best housemates. I don't mind him being on the beds if everyone gets their fair share of screen time, but don't put him on the beds and leave him there for the whole show because then I'll just switch it off and Channel 5 has lost a viewer. I'm not being funny, but he's just not my cup of tea to the extent that I want to watch him for a whole show – especially if he's not even busy.
I'm sorry, but I now have no choice but to completely stop watching this appallingly mismanaged farce of a production and take my money elsewhere... Well, not my money, obviously – 'cos I only watch it and I never call. But I would call in and vote if the producers knew what they were doing, and they told Ofcom to jolly well take a running jump, and we could get back to the good old days of the best housemates, full screen, doing whatever they like, with no interruptions. If reality TV as a whole gets any worse, I shall have to consider leaving the forum.
...Am I in the right section?
