The three Blu Ray Steel Books am about recommend are from one of fav film franchises and thats Mission Impossible films not only great films but all very different and greatly acted by Tom Cruise. I will be reviewing the steel books of Mission Impossible 1,2, and 3. i'll review the design and the film's separately as the quality of the transfers are different.
The design of all three steel books look fantastic, a great design each show casing images from each film on each case on the front and back. All three films also have inside art again showing scenes from film and each steel book is colour coded so the first one is red, second one gold and the third one blue, the title of each film is embossed on the front of case and the steel book is partly glossed will put up pic's of each steel book after the review.
Mission Impossible 1 has a great 1080p transfer a massive improvement over the dvd version a lot more crisp and more detail, where theres scenes where its very light you do see the grain this i guess is due to the age of the film and by the fact that it isn't digitally remastered but never the less it looks better then ever. The sound quality is big improvement, mission impossible theme sounds better then ever now especially when you have it hooked up to a home cinema system its really great. As for extras there a good few on the disc.
Mission Impossible 2 has a better transfer again 1080p, its worth upgrading from the dvd version the action scenes look better then ever now and in even more detail, the colours look deep and rich. There is a little grain here and there but again nothing too much to spoil the film. The sound again is great a full 5.1 digital sound, every from punches and explosions are heard in great detail. As for extras there's a good hand full not as much as the first one tho.
Mission Impossible 3 has the best transfer out of all of them again a 1080p transfer, when it gets right down to the action everything looks crisp and detail especially when theres fast moving action, every looks smooth colours looking deep and rich especially when theres dark colours on screen. There's a tiny bit of grain but nothing too serious to spoil the film. The sound quality is great everything from explosions and the thumping sound track sound great you really benefit from having this hooked up to a home cinema system. As for extras its very disappointing as there's only a couple on the blu ray disc seeing as the dvd version was a two disc and had a load on it.
I reviewed Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol a few months ago again great transfer full 1080p, great sound quality and loads of extras including the dvd and digital copy of the film. I really highly recommend Mission Impossible 1,2,3 as steel books not only are they Play.com exclusives but there £10.99 each a bargain in my book if your a steel book and a fan of the Mission Impossible franchise. A must have in your blu ray steel book collection
