Not really sure that analogy works very well at proving the point you are trying to put forward to be honest..
Selling a bottle of caustic chemical to clean one's crapper (alliteration overload) requires massive text, a punchy voiceover and attractive graphics/fx all over the screen because nobody actually gives a flying toss about bathroom cleaning products. Short & sweet, high impact, catchy as hell, not a second wasted - hard sell 101
Taking the same approach with a hottie with her baps out is pretty obtuse.. Playboy and Hustler became famous for their full page spreads, not for "YOU BUY ONE, YOU GET ONE FREE! AAH SAID YOU BUY ONE, YOU GET ONE FREE!!!" etc.
Of course all this is moot, because none of you guys are idiots and you know this. In recent years, more and more focus has been put on hard selling £3/£4 a pop and subscription services and attracting eavesdroppers at the expense of the "interactive" format that forged yours and many other brands. Your product has good exposure, mobile technology has moved on, MMS and connection charges make good money and you want to milk it - so you adopt formats that generate the most profit for the least amount of expended effort - it's nothing new or suprising. I would imagine that whether your long time viewers like it or not is pretty damn irrelevant to you as long as you are making decent money. Can't say I blame you much either.
As such, all I'm gonna say about the OSG's is this. I know you are going to have shit all over the screen, probably obscuring things that we guys want to see ...you have shit to sell, it's inevitable. How about making liberal use of that alpha channel slider when designing your component and background layers? Transparencies open the screen right up and, for anything that I have ever designed, makes the difference between it looking like crap and looking fresh and professional. It's something pretty much every channel fails miserably at with their OSG's and banners and I think you'd find a lot less venom and threads like this one being created if you take it on board during the design process.
Thanks in advance and I look forward to seeing the new OSG's - hope you find this feedback constructive
