Megaupload

I can access Megaupload so don't know whether this will work for those that can't, but try replacing the http://www.megaupload.com part of whatever URL you're attempting to load with http://174.140.154.25

Just gave it a go an it seems to work for me guess it will have to do until BT get around to sorting it out proper.

In Wazo's link it also said try replacing the www. with ssl. which works for me

Seems to be back up an running as normal now hopefully it will stay that way now

Has anyone had any security issueswith megaupload recently?

A couple of weeks ago, I had a few windows open on my main pc (innocent stuff -here, bbc, telegraph sport type things) and was downloading a file from mu, when I picked up a virus "Vista Security 2010".
Fortunately quite a lot known about it and some removal tools available, so was able to clear it in a couple of hours.
Suspected it came from mu but wasn't sure.

Today, I was uploading a file to mu, with nothing else active on the pc, and picked up "Vista Security 2011" virus - and am now going through removal process again, with fingers crossed...

So wondered if anyone else has had similar or has any advice to prevent me getting it again?
(I have virgin total security, inc mcafee, but am not a member of mu)

Also, I guess, to warn others to keep an eye out when using mu...
perhaps I'll use rs instead...maybe slow but at least they don't **** up my computer!

misterG i have not encountered any virus issues from mu.

maybe i have missed when running various anti-spyware/virus/malware programmes very couple of weeks.

I've used Megaupload & Megaporn for over a year now. I've not encountered any virus infection from them, and I too use Mcafee as my main security. But saying that, I thank you for the warning. it's something to look out for if there is a problem with certain files.

Strange thing this time though was that I was uploading the file (clean file from my pc) and had first virus warning about 5 mins into upload, so it wasn't an infected file I downloaded - and with nothing else running on pc?
So no guarantee it was mu - guess it could even have been embedded from 1st time if I didn't remove properly...

run your anti virus/spyware/malware programmes in safe mode and also run a cleaning programme, i use atf cleaner which deletes cookies, internet history etc which are optional.

misterg thanks for the warning will keep an eye on the virus/malware/spyware with mu.

i use avast, malwarebytes, super anti-spyware

Well it took a bit longer than last time, but cleared it: if ever it happens, there is good advice on the ms site and several bits of dedicated software to reset registry & remove the virus - I used malwarebytes.
Also traced the .exe file (uhm.exe in my case) which had actually downloaded about 8pm the previous day, so was definitely nothing to do with mu, unless something about the popups or upload triggered it into action.
