Re-engineering Life: The Next Frontiers in Space
Fareed Zakaria takes a break from pretending to be a centrist by talking to two lady scientists about gene-editing with Crispr, and then about developments in AI. Both grim in their own ways.

Faking It: Tears of a Crime - Fred Talbot
How an Altrincham-based geography teacher got up to no good, and then became regionally/nationally famous as a pratfalling weatherman, and then found his victims had long memories after all. His "no comment" policy in interviews was so gormless you wonder why his lawyer either suggested it or went along with it.

Genuinely fascinating, as Liz moved to the Kennet & Avon, and John Rennie, but crucially the story of William Smith, who used the construction of one canal branch to test theories on geology, so that in 1799 he published theories on strata (the layers of rock, lime, clay, etc beneath all our feet), and in 1815 published a national map to the same effect. Thereafter people would know where to dig to find coal etc, which would have been a boon to the Industrial Revolution. Smith is therefore probably one of the most unsungest heroes in our history (or a total tit if you want to be "green" about it).

Wendy Craig: All the Laughs & More
Decent profile of the talented film actress & sitcom legend, who also wrote a few episodes with her husband.

How the Grand Junction was built to link Birmingham and London, and help establish Brentford and Paddington, until later the railways meant it was game over.
