The Bottom Line
Steve Clemons talks first to Shadi Hamid and Julia Manchester about the Trump-Harris debate, and then to Arikana Chihombori about the proposals to add African countries to the UN Security Council, but without veto powers.

Global Public Square
Following his VZ chat last week, FZ spent longer talking with Hillary Clinton, who's got a new book out, than Antonio Guterres, who's trying to prevent World War 3. It's his show, I guess.

African Voices: Changemakers - Wole Soyinka
Larry Madowo talks to Africa's 1st Nobel Laureate for Literature, since he's just turned 90, and still busy writing and working.

9.12 Celebrity Christmas Special - Noddy Holder, Mica Paris and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen got to sit for celebrity painters, two of whom were Jedward, and Ronni Ancona had been a sitter in an earlier series. Jason Merrells won with his take on Noddy.

I've really enjoyed binge-watching this series. Somewhat in keeping, I would have followed on with the Landscape Artist of the Year, except I didn't realise they were going to do so and it's probably as well, since I can catch up on some other stuff instead.
Landscape Artist of the Year 2015
1.1 Good grief.
Frank Skinner and Joan Bakewell take 8 painters to Lyme Park to paint Lyme Hall (on canvas); also 50 wild card painters join in with a slim chance of making the semi-finals. The 3 finalists all deserved to win, never mind just progress. The judges ironically picked the one that was under-finished in the time, and looked like the dust jacket for a book about a haunted house.

6.x Och hoots the noo, aff tae bonnie Scotland etc, where the fish are so lively that our heroes rather fail to catch many of them. Paul nabs a grilse, and spots a leaping salmon, but that's it. However, Ted is along for the ride, Arabella Weir joins them as a special Scawtish guest, and after the awards, Clare Grogan also turns up for a curt chat, before singing them out, with the rest of Altered Images and I Could Be Happy ("all of these things I do to get away from you" / "how can I escape from you?" er, did you think that through, lads? ).

A fitting seasonal tribute, even with more fishing than catching/releasing.
M&W: Gone Fishing
7.1 To Norfolk, a couple of secluded but successful spots to catch tench, and even a bonus with a carp. Old pal Dr Anand gave a health chat (Bob seems as ever more fragile than Paul), but Ted got up to some larks at the pub. A welcome return.

Last Week Tonight w/John Oliver
Having had a week off, he debunks the Springfield Haitian mythos, then looks at the failures of America's disability benefit system, which as with other issues, shows America doesn't want to pay for things if it can get away with it.
