MediaFire.com - file hosting
I've been using MediaFire.com for several weeks now and, so far, I'm happy with it as a replacement for Megaupload.

As aceman65 said in this post, the site won't delete your files unless you stop using your account or people stop downloading your hosted content. The maximum file size is 200mb, which works fine for me, though I know some uploaders would find that limit unworkable. I've not had any replies to my requests for opinions of what the site is like to use as a downloader [nudge] but, going by the download numbers I see next to my videos on the site, very few are experiencing major problems.

One feature of the site I do like, which I've not seen on others [not for free users like me anyway] is the ability to create sub-folders within your account so you can manage your files more easily [image capture below]...

The upload speeds have been good [certainly on a par with what I experienced at both Megaupload and Rapidshare] and the one time an upload was interrupted it resumed after a short time and completed successfully. Let's hope the Americans keep their stupid, fat fingers off this one and we can enjoy sharing our legal and permitted videos in peace!

MediaFire is American itself though - I think it's located in Texas.

Doesn't mean they can't muck it up for the rest of us though.

RE: MediaFire.com - file hosting
I've had no problems with it at all. Big Grin You have done the same as me, in regards setting up sub-folders for each channel. As for video's over 200 MB in size, I'm just packing them with winrar & splitting them into 200 MB parts. Quick and easy solution. Wink

I'm certainly not going to be using Rapidshare any longer. As some of my re-uploads have already been deleted. Sad Which means I'll have to re-upload them again. Rolleyes

Both upload & download speeds seem fine for me. As I'm getting around 1.4 Mbit's upload & a 200 MB file takes about 10 min's to download, Which is ideal, as the time permitted between downloads is 10 min's. Wink

So I'm certainly happy with them up to now. Big Grin

RE: MediaFire.com - file hosting
I started using Mediafire in May last year and sent up 2 test files, i added a few links to my post then left due to the 200MB limit and recently i went back to my file manager and was amazed those 2 test files where still live, i never posted links to them so zero downloads Smile

Saying that after MU going i'm not sure wether its wise to rely on just 1 host again annoyed

Btw download speed for me on Mediefire is 250 - 350KB Smile

PS. credit for me trying them last year goes to quiquems as he was using them at the time i think.

RE: MediaFire.com - file hosting
I just downloaded acemans latest Danica vid using jdownloader. I'm not sure what its like downloading via the mediafire website but jdownloader downloaded the 2 rar links simultaneously, pretty sure free users couldnt even do that with MU.
The 18mb file took 30 seconds and the 200mb file downloaded in 5minutes. My speed averaged 550kbps, but the last minute of downloading the 200mb file my speed was over 1MB. Jdownloader also extracted the rar file as well.

So it took 6minutes to download and extract 2 MF links totalling 220mb. Very niceSmile

RE: MediaFire.com - file hosting
Well I may have started out singing this file sharing hosts praises. But no longer.

As some of you may know, I have been having problems with them blocking access to certain links. So I decided to get in touch with them about it and find out why. There initial response was the usual Copyright infringement crap. So I sent them all the proof they needed to prove that this forum has copyright permission from all the channels.

Their next response was a wierd one. They then said that the files were in breach of their terms & conditions. As the forum was streaming them. I know for a fact that the forum was not streaming the blocked files. So I challenged them to provide me with the url, were the streaming was occuring. They sent my email back unread.

They have now started to block even more files. And I have noticed that every one has the word naked in the filename. So it's obvious that they are are using a bot to hunt for certain words.

So apologies for the long winded statement. But I would warn anyone against using this host from now on. But if you do, then make sure you don't use certain words in your filename, particularly naked.

I would also like to thank aldo560, for spotting that the links were being blocked in the first place.

I hope you all have a good Easter.

Ace.

RE: MediaFire.com - file hosting
I host a fair bit of stuff on MF and I've had no problems, but I always tend to rename my files to something that isn't going to stick out to a bot (normally just a series of initials).

I found MF only a short while ago after I found that a certain Anime (yup, I'm a geek from time to time) that was released 10 years ago is being remastered and released in HD with the files being downloaded off MF.

I think it's great for content that is on the small size, but it doesn't work very well for files over 500 MB IMO, and most other hosts place restrictions on speed but not on file size resulting in slow downloads.

RE: MediaFire.com - file hosting
I'm not saying don't use it. Afterall it's your choice. Just be careful what you call your files. As I have no idea what other words are on the blocked list.

But I personally won't be using it for any more uploads. Not because they don't provide a good service, they do. But because they are not adhering to their own rules, as layed down in their terms & conditions.

Not one of the files that were blocked was in breach of any of their rules. They were blocked just because they had the word naked in the filename. And they won't accept any proof to the contrary.

I don't know about anyone else, but I won't trust a host that doesn't stick to it's own terms & conditions.
