Just loved this line.

But MPs and charities say this will not adequately safeguard children because it will rely on their parents being responsible and proactive enough to ask for access to be blocked.

If parents don't take responsibility for their children then what hope is there for our society.

Thats exactly the mentality of the totalitarian state. People are not permitted to make their own decisions in their own homes, so the state steps in and "protects" them.

Most of the filtering software I am aware of is for Windows computers, so what if you buy a Mac? Assuming they do have similar software available for Mac's, what if you go to one of the more tech-savvy dealers and buy a computer with linux loaded? I am not aware of similar filtering software for linux. What if you get a tablet, does that count as a computer for these purposes and also require filtering software to protect our nations little darlings?

It's a non-starter for me. The ISP's can be made to do filtering but applying it to computers just won't work.

It misses the point anyhow. Look at the news reports regarding Jimmy Saville, and the institutionalised abuse at childrens homes and grooming and abuse by gangs. Our children are not at risk from porn on the net, but from the very adults that are supposed to be applying these filters and censorship to protect them!!

Given that I can't remember having a chance to vote for them, wouldn't it be good if the country stopped being ruled by the extreme right wing nutters who make up The Daily Mail and its readers?

As a parent i want it to be difficult ..no....impossible for my children to access porn on the internet...if that means that i have to answer a few questions from the powers that be when i buy a pc then so be it..

It will be no hardship for an adult to have to overcome a few minor obstacles in the form of installing a bit of software which will enable the RESPONSIBLE parent to access porn if they so wish whilst still ensuring that safety measures are in place for when there children do use the pc/laptop/tablet etc

I dont know how many people here are parents, but even if you aren't i cant understand the outrage at such a measure being made mandatory.

If you're a responsible parent then you install the software, if you're not a parent its really a non - issue anyway...Whats the problem?
