RE: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Saw it on Saturday - very enjoyable; thought it went much quicker than the first film which I found dragged a bit in places.

Seemed to be a lot more incidents/new characters/locations/action in this one, compared to the first which had to do a fair bit of "setting up" and it felt a bit padded/delaying the journey getting too far. So this second film has got the benefit of that.

Not all of it tremendously faithful to the book (I don't remember any She-elfs, but fair enough I suppose the world has moved on since the 1930s when it was written) and I guess films do need more visual action/fights etc to keep them interesting; but still seemed to get all the main plot points in, as well as extra stuff with Gandalf to tie in with the existing Lord of the Rings film "sequels".

The giant statue of Stephen Fry as the Master of Laketown is hilarious.

Cruel "cliffhanger ending".
Next one should be good...Smile

After watching the latest instalment of The Hobbit at the cinema last week, I was reading up about it online, as I was very impressed by it, and more specifically, Benedict Cumberbatch's performance as the Dragon, Smaug.
