24 Inch core duo Imac
Just upgraded my old 17 inch G5 imac to a new 24 inch core duo intel imac, which am loving at the moment but for one problem. I need to transfer the information from my G5 to the new mac but the problem is my old machine has packed up and won't turn on and really need help in working out how to transfer all my stuff from the harddrive on my old machine to the new machine.

The best thing to do is to remove the drive from the G5 and place it in an hard drive enclosure. That link is just an example of what you want and price, get one anywhere you like, it is a common and easy to buy attatchment. They work on USB/Firewire, plug it into the new machine, off you go.

EDIT:Make sure the enclosure you get is for IDE/PATA drives as opposed to SATA, and also for 3.5" instead of 2.5" there are hybrid enclosures available that do SATA and IDE though. I am saying that assuming the G5 definitely is a 3.5" IDE/PATA drive, if in doubt take it to a tech store and ask for an external enclosure for that drive.

(I got there eventually, read the wrong manual initially, that i makes a difference Smile )

Try VLC for playing vids and avidemux for making them.

RE: 24 Inch core duo Imac
Finally managed to sort it out, bought a HDD External Enclosure with a 3,5 inch IDE, PATA AND SATA HDD and put the old G5 harddrive inside and i hooked up to the new imac and it worked. Was able to transfer everything in the end. What am gonna do is blank the old harddrive and use it as a back up and use time machine to back up all my stuff. Thank you Skateguy and SomeGeek for your help wish i could rep you guys again Smile.
