RE: Next Gen Consoles
And the story you posted from April 2014 you might wanna read a more updated story about the matter from 2 weeks, Phil Spencer the head of Xbox Division said and i quote:

“Back compat is always a hot topic at the turn of a generation, and I get why, especially on 360 so many people bought so much digital content and it means that a lot of us are holding on to our 360s,” he sympathies, continuing on “I get the question. I totally respect the question. There’s nothing I can say now, but I’ll just say “I hear you.” I definitely hear you and I’ll continue to try to work to build something that can help people out.”

The article then says:

The issue of the Xbox One playing X360 content, or even games from the original Xbox has been raised a few times by viewers and readers when contacting me. It’s certainly unlikely the Xbox One can locally emulate the Xbox 360 – the hardware is extremely different. The CPU (the Xenon) is based on a PowerPC architecture (fun little fact, but the Xenon and the Cell processor or somewhat cousins in their origin). The AMD Jaguar inside the Xbox One simply isn’t beefy enough to provide the grunt to emulate.

If you read what Mr Spencer has said they would have build something for it to be able to do that and thats Sony have to build the Playstation Tv, if a device were built how much would it cost and would you be just be better off buying a second hand 360?

the second article even says they would have either build a device or stream similar to what Sony are doing its not as simple as just downloading new software or physical changing the hardware as the hardware is set hence why the Xbox One can't change from 900p to 1080p with most games, thats why Nintendo over came this issue by making the Wii and Wii U backwards compatibly from the start.

RE: Next Gen Consoles
The source i used is directly from guy that is the head of Xbox and only 2 weeks so unless his talking rubbish i only basing what i've said on clear cut facts, personally i think the consoles should have been made backward compatibly in the first place we all why they didn't its because of money because they want you to re-buy the games again making them richer. Backwards compatibly doesn't effect me at all because i made sure for me personally that i had that covered I kept my PS1,PS2 and PS3.

Posted 10th October 2014:

""The Xbox One is not backwards compatible with its predecessor, the Xbox 360. Neither is the PlayStation 4, but Sony seems to be attempting a streaming solution, PlayStation Now, to bring the PS3’s bast library over to the PS4. And neither of them have anything on the Wii U, which runs every single Wii game, retail, digital, or Virtual Console, and supports every single Wii controller and accessory.

Microsoft last year famously stated that it had no plans to support backwards compatibility on the Xbox One; however, in a recent podcast, head of Xbox Phil Spencer said that he wanted to bring backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One in some way or the other.

Seems he's a tad contradictory.

Thats because he wasn't in charge at the time hence why the policy of backward compatibility has been changed. The original idea of the Xbox One was to be more of general entertainment system where as his focus is to make the Xbox One more of Video games console system.

RE: Next Gen Consoles
Obviously the largest part stems from making extra cash from the resale of current games.
I see Nintendo as the black sheep of the console market, if Sony & Microsoft say 'black", Nintendo reply with "white". I believe they felt they had to do things differently in order to stay afloat against the two dominant leaders, they managed this quite surprisingly and successfully. They obviously took a very different approach to backwards compatibility and made it possible, another clever trick here from Nintendo ( unlike the others Important)
The backwards compatibility is a nice touch I suppose, but people want the next gen feel, surely? I see it as simply another handy feature, nothing more.
Anyway, we're supposed to be moving forward are we not, and therein lies the problem.

Personally, as someone who has not played anywhere near all xbox 360 games the ability to be able to play them is an absolute must. Speaking personally, I wouldn't even consider buying an xbox one until and only until I have exhausted those games, I can't be the only one, so there's a market there.

As for going out and buying TWO consoles, especially for those who have yet to buy one would seem a little unlikely; they would get one or the other. It's only the extreme gamers who have to rush out and buy the latest console on the day of release, I'd imagine most won't be like that.

As you the backwards, I know someone in the industry and they feel confidant it will be ready in the next year as a big firmware upgrade; time will out over that, if it isn't, it isn't.
