RE: Call of Duty: World at War
Just to let you know you can still get RROD on the Elite, I got it quite recently actually. But it is a lot less common.
--------------
In response to the PS3 and 360;
I have both consoles. The PS3 is far superior hardware wise, but game wise is where the 360 wins.
Xbox 360:
The back-catalogue of good games on the 360 is ridiculous and their exclusives are in another league, but the reliability is the where the problem lies. Xbox Live is miles better than Playstation's equivalent (PSN) so that is a another question you should ask is: If you will be wanting to play online.
One thing is though is that the Xbox 360 is in it's last couple of years. So MS might be releasing a new console in the next couple of years whereas the PS3 has just been "newly" released.
PS3:
There are a fair few good exclusive games which are on this console (Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet and the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 to name a few). There a less cases of reliability issues for the PS3 and apparently Sony are excellent with their Support service.
The PS3 is also future proof, it has a Blu-ray drive built in so if you want to watch films in High Definition (and porn lol) this is the way to go, since the PS3 has a Ethernet port you will be able to update to the newest Blu-ray firmware. (Currently it is Blu-ray 2.0). The only problem with this console is the lack of games compared to the Xbox.
Personally I use my 360 more and I hardly touch my PS3, I only use it when I am watching films.
Hope that helps.

I take it both machines are about par for media playing/streaming capeabilities?
If you want to stream trouble free, PS3 is the way to go.
It is more of a "Home Entertainment System" than the 360. You can stream on the 360 but it is alot more complicated and also you can't save photo's from a external HD/MS on the 360, but on the PS3 there is no problem.
There is also rumoured to be a 180GB PS3 coming out early 2009, so I am not sure if you want to wait for that. (If it is coming out that is)
