Macbook, windows and anti virus.

After 20 years of windows I decided to get an old (2006) macbook and have a play. Quite impressed; even more impressed to the point of staggered, I had no idea you could install a full windows operating system on them via bootcamp; essentially two laptops for the price of one.

The point of the thread: I know apple are well known for not needing antivirus software, what I needed to know does the windows need it installed on a apple system? The answer seems obvious that it does, it's just one of those things that need clarifying.

yes it does and macs need them now 2. there market share has gotten big enough that malware writers are writing malware for mac os.
the fact you didnt need 1 in the past wasnt because the o.s is impervious to attack. but because the customers base wasnt big enough to warrant the effort.
now mac have gained market share new viruses and malware will start showing up.

I managed to get windows 7 fully working and installed on the macbook and yes it seems that you do need all the usual protection. I also saw that macs were starting to need them also.

That said, I had no idea that you could get two operating systems on the one lap top. I managed to get a Mac pro 2006 for £85, you can get a 1tbdrive for £50 so i plan to split the drive equally and have best of both worlds.

Macs seem beautiful machines it's a shame they are so staggeringly expensive to buy, but if you consider they can run two op systems and last years, the macbook in the op runs like lightning, then maybe they are better value for money then you think.

I also got a 3rd gen with retina ipad and that is georgeous, and I've found it's a massive help with my dyslexia.

My answer's too late, but yes windows definitely needs antivirus installed on an apple system. Because windows is always windows and comes with all windows vulnerabilities completely regardless of where it's being used.

mate you can run as many virtual machines as you have real cores on your pc.
whether you use mac os, windows or even linux. nore does it make any difference whether you run vm ware on a mac or a pc.
both will handle virtual machines.
