RE: Euro 2016
I'm waiting for the inevitable calls for a winter break, suggestions of improving things from the grass roots all the way to the Premier League, discussion of how the high number of foreign players in the PL potentially stifles home-grown talent etc..... and then nothing really changes.
We get to the next tournament, crash out and the cycle continues again. -_-

Lots or EU players in the Premier League would not have qualified for work permits under the Non EU system that is in place so unless post Brexit there is still freedom of movement or a special arrangement is in place we may see changes in the numbers of EU players over here.

This is a very accurate summation. But for me, it is not any of these things paticularly (although a foreign player quota may help a little), nor a lack of technical ability or an absense of passion or pride that makes England fail so spectacularly at major tournaments. To my mind the players may even feel the latter as a responsibility instead of an inspiration.

I feel it has been a lack of leadership qualities from the sidelines and on the pitch when in difficult situations that has lead to so many early exits in the last 20 years..

The team's history has become a burden to the players that, psychologically, weighs heavy at these times.

Steven Gerrard speaks from experience in this piece, http://www.itv.com/news/2016-06-29/cultu...-gerrard/. He seems 100% spot on to me.

There used to be a phrase called Midfield General. Players who often were the captain but were the heart and soul of the team, directing play and players and with the ability to adjust tactics as the game unfolded before them.

Where are they now?

Something has to be done in terms of having a maximum level of foreigners in the team. Look at Spain the 6 best forwards play for madrid and Barcelona. Not one of them spanish. They have had by their standards another tournament flop. Platini always said the English are lions in the winter lambs in the summer. We still have a nucleus of a good team for the future. Rashford, Lingard at Man U, Gray at leicester the Spurs contingent etc. We also won the prestigious Toulon tournament with our u21 team. What we need is someone like Eddie Jones in charge of our football team.
He said to Haskell on taking the england post "I hope you have got long finger nails because you are only just clinging on" he also lobbed a bag of sweets at Youngs And told him you're too fat, not sharp enough. If he was in charge he would tell the players they are good but not as good as their pay packet suggests. If he did that with the footballers they would probably retire from international football. The fact is if you want to be the best you need to be told some brutal home truths and our players have not been told that. They lead super star lifestyles without actually being one.

Gareth Bale in one tournament has done more that Rooney has ever done at all the tournaments he has been at.

Look at all the fuss that Lionel Messi is getting for quitting playing for Argentina from government officials to ex players to change his mined.

I actually sympathise with him as I think it echoes a lot with the England team. The Argentine often expect miracles from Messi but don't give him the support he needs to make those miracles happen. And often England attack they often don't support each other when attacking and thast's when moves breaks down. Still remember Batty & Le Saux fighting (was it in the san Marino game just after they scored?)

maybe it would do the team good to have Eddie Jones walk in the dressing from one training session and do what he did to them if they don't like it when he dishes it out to them, tough titties!! Tongue But I don't think you could draw any comparison between Roy Hodgson and Stuart Lancaster as I think Lancaster had much more to cope with by winning a home World Cup and have always thought Stuart was a decent bloke's bloke

Wasn't that in a European match when they were playing for Blackburn. They were getting beat by a Russian team
