This Above All(1942)
A superior wartime romance set in a studio created Britain, directed by Anatole Litvak and starring Tyrone Power as a conscientious objector who falls in love with a renowned surgeon's daughter, played brilliantly by Joan Fontaine.

The Chimp(1932)
A sublime Laurel and Hardy short directed by James Parrott that follows Stan and Ollie after they are let go from a circus due its closure.Their pay off, a flea circus and a tutu wearing gorilla called Ethel. The gags come thick and fast when our heroes have to sneak the gorilla into their room under their very suspicious and jealous landlord's nose. The best joke comes when the landlord hears Ollie pleading : "Ethel, will you take off that tutu and come to bed?".The landlord's wife is also named Ethel.

Bluebeard(2009)
Catherine Breillat's feminist retelling of Perrault's story is pretty effective with nice makeup effects through out and a new suprise ending that to me neither adds or detracts from the original.Lola Créton is very good as Marie-Catherine.

Firestarter(1984)
A pretty flat adaptation of Stephen King's novel directed by Mark L.Lester and starring Drew Barrymore as Charlie,a nine year old girl with pyrokinetic abilities who tries to evade a government agency known as The Shop, that are out to control and exploit her abilities. As usual King publicly slated the film when it was poorly received both critically and commercially.George C.Scott,Martin Sheen and David Keith are watchable in supporting roles.

Avengers: Infinity War
It was very good. With that many characters, it was always going to be difficult to get a coherent story that you can engage with, but they managed it well enough. Good balance of story and action, comedy and drama, etc. Marvel are clearly playing on a different level to DC.
That said...
I really think I'm done with the comic book movies. There are just too many and they have become too formulaic. I know they won't do it, because these movies are just too lucrative, but in a perfect world, they would do Avengers 4, wrap it all up, and then call it a day for a decade or so. Give people a chance to grow their imaginations back and redevelop a sense of wonder that a guy can fly in an iron suit. That's my grumpy-old-man review...
(How bad is it that my interest in babeshows and comic book superheroes appears to wax and wane at the same rate?)

Ryan's Daughter(1970)
Directed by David Lean who brought his characteristic grand sweep to what is essentially a love story set in 1916 during the Rising. With great performances from Sarah Miles as a village schoolmistress, married to Robert Mitchum whilst falling for a British officer played by Christopher Jones.Even with the beautiful backdrop of Ireland's seascapes the film just plods along in too many parts for it to leave a lasting impression despite strong support from Trevor Howard, Leo MacKern and John Mills.

All or Nothing(2002)
Mike Leigh's film was condemned by critics upon release for being just too grim but Timothy Spall is enthralling as a philosophical taxi driver named Phil, who waxes lyrical over a great many subjects to his passengers.
