Pornstar scams her fans for $1.5 million

Pornstar Lana Rhoades recently launched her own NFT, basically cartoon images of herself which she promised would make a lucrative investment. The whole NFT concept may not seem very convincing to some, but others are swept up in it and don’t need a lot to persuading to invest in an NFT. What's more, Rhoades claimed that her project was just the beginning and that other models were signed up to create their own collections.

Rhoades managed to raise $1.5m mainly by using Twitter and Instagram for promotion, but unfortunately the value of her art collection soon sank and the price is currently about 90% down, prompting Rhoades to withdraw the $1.5m raised and delete her Twitter account. She denies being a scammer and says the scheme just didn't work out, and she won't be refunding anyone because she needs the cash to pay her development team.

It didn't go down well with Lana though.



For the sake of balance, and because she denies being a scammer, I think it's important to consider what Lana has to say.



Her Twitter account may be gone, but at least with these saved tweets we can get to see her side of the story.

Lana's NFT launch most likely was genuine and not intended to be a scam, but there's a very fine line with these NFTs between taking people for a ride and just being genuinely over optimistic about an NFT's prospects. It's become a great way of making money if you can persude people to buy your tokens, but in order to do that you have to talk up their potential.

The whole NFT thing's a minefield. In December Arsenal FC adverts for their NFT were banned by the Advertising Standards Authority, who said Arsenal was "taking advantage of consumers’ inexperience or credulity, trivialising investment in crypto assets, misleading consumers over the risk of investment and not making it clear the ‘token’ was a crypto asset".

Arsenal didn't get accused of scamming though, but as I said before with NFTs it's a very fine line between scamming and being too optimistic, but how do you get people to invest in them without being optimistic? If Lana actually did promise people that her NFT would make a lucrative investment then I can understand why she's ended up being accused of being a scammer.

It's a reply to Lana's tweets copied above and other statements she's made in her defence.

People using this war (or any other) as a get out, using it as a deflection, well that person is a scumbag.
I thought her time in prison put her on the straight and narrow, and yes I do think porn is an honest living.

I clicked on the link I posted above to see how Lana's NFT was doing now, but her listing on the Opensea market is now a "page not found". This means that Opensea must have delisted the NFT, which is quite an unusual and drastic step to take. It's also bad news for the people who bought the tokens, if they no longer have a marketplace to buy and sell them. A strange turn of events.

Does this mean Lana's tokens are worthless now? And the people who bought them have simply lost all their money?

No, Lana's NFT is still alive and kicking. I don't know what happened with Opensea, but she's found a new marketplace, a site called Looks Rare.
