Did I see a report which stated that Yorkshire may have been bankrupted if the test match had not happened this year.

208 runs for the 8th wicket. The highest 8th wicket partnership.
And Bairstow and Overton are not finished.
Overton's 89 no is the highest English debutant.
From 55-6, England went to ending the day on 264-6.
65 runs behind New Zealand

Overton's a keeper. Smile

^ It was also the first time the top 3 England batsmen had been out without getting to double figures and the lowest number of balls for us to have lost 6 wickets.

This test series is a brilliant advert for Test cricket even if some of the batting has been poor before veering to sensational.

Yes that is true!! Seems inconceivable, but just goes to show how much- even the 'big' clubs - operate on a shoe string. Of course, some will say they brought it on themselves if they had to compensate for unfair dismissal, and the loss of sponsorship income after the whole Rafiq debacle.

I genuinely wish that those that pile in for England, would do so for their nearest county (both first class and minor) when their team is playing. I reckon that a decent number of those that have attended this match so far - and will do so for the remainder of it - come from the Yorkshire catchment area. I wish we had such opportunities here on the island of ireland, and specifically NI with the NWCU and the NCU

Overton out on 97. Gutted for him.

I saw a feature on the Duke balls.
Bowlers have been complaining that the ball goes too soft early.
After approaching Duke it was found that there was a new guy who sowed the leather together. He's now going to make the new balls tighter.

Is this the reason why early batters struggle and the reason why middler order batters are scoring the big runs.

A slightly more traditionally paced day of Test Match Cricket, but no less absorbing. Certainly packed full of incident, Jamie O's disappointment, a Broad batting cameo, catches missed, & great catches taken. Bairstow, got to take the gloves, after his class innings, with Foakes struggling with a stiff back.
Much will rest on the Kiwi double-act, Mitchell, & Conway, for a challenging target to be set, but with so many match winners on both sides, it's hard to predict an outcome, although, a draw seems unlikely.

After I was in disbelief at around 3pm yesterday switching on this morning thinking what on earth happened to the new Zealand bowling and then England's bowlers must have had something really good for the tea break to swing the test match there way

Cracking match and series. So far Stokes looks to be a very good captain, good bowler changes and interesting fields.

Have to say the more I watch Potts bowl the more impressed I get! Hits a challenging line and length with impressive consistency. I think it’s also possible he might stick a yard of pace on too. He’s only 23 and should get stronger in the English set up. If he could get his average pace up to 85-86 he’s going to be a proper handful on all pitches! I like that he isn’t reliant on swing and that he doesn’t bowl much of a bouncer which is another area he can improve. Top quality potential! A younger, fitter version of Ollie Robinson … who hopefully can become the English Ryan Harris
