Having followed the enquiry a lot a few weeks ago I haven't been so inclined to watch it recently and Vennells is definitely disappointing.
She was a CEO, good enough apparently, years ago, for someone to conclude that she was worth an honour for something.
OK, she left the Post Office a while back, handed in her laptop and I suspect shredded any documents she had because she was probably delighted to get the hell out of it.
However, all these years later she's still, in theory, CEO material and crying isn't what those sort of people do. EVER. Alan Sugar, can you imagine him crying? Michael O'Leary of Ryanair, few scruples about sticking to his guns in any context. I wish I could name a lady CEO to compare her to but woman bosses can be tough, and they're immune to the Old Boy Network.
She's been saying she can't remember. OK, so she hadn't kept her old IT kit and she's been confronted with her emails of a decade ago. I see my old emails now and again and within seconds I'm back there in the Naughties and today I'd stand by every word I wrote.
I'd expect her to tough it out. Have all her prep done and dispute every fact and throw Jason and his team curved ball after curved ball. And thump the table. And if Wyn Williams advises a word of caution I'd expect her to cross swords with him too.
One question that she could surely ask is why weren't all the other SPM's prosecuted? Was Horizon only faulty for 700 of them? There was apparently 11,500 post offices all told. How come 10,800 SPM's didn't need prosecuting she could ask - was it because they were honest?
She should stick to her guns and say that Alan Bates and Co were a bunch of crooks.
Maybe she'd go down fighting but if she was my CEO, my boss that's what I want to see. What are her ex-colleagues, all senior managers meant to think? They worked for her, maybe trusted her, now they see her waving the white flag.
Obviously she's been advised by her legal team, just say you can't remember and cry some crocodile tears. Obviously she'll never be a CEO again.
Pity, I'd hoped for a real ratings winner.
BTW, I had noticed the heavy police escort she gets.
