Mark Williams has beaten Mark Selby 10-7 to become British Open champion and claim his 25th ranking title.
After a few near misses in recent years it's good to see him in the winners circle once more. Well played Sir.

Mark Williams is like the George Foreman of snooker. You can't psyche him out.

RE: British Open
No rest for the wicked! The British Open starts tomorrow from the Centaur Arena, Cheltenham. It will be screened live on ITV 4.

Most of the qualifiers have already taken place between 31 July and 3rd August. Jack Lisowski and Ishpreet Singh-Chadha were amongst the losers. The qualifiers for the top 16 were held over, so the top 16 all play their qualifying round match tomorrow.

The British Open is not a part of the BetVictor Home Nations series, and indeed it is sponsored by Unibet. As with the English Open, the prize money has been increased from last year, with the winner getting £100,000. Sponsors of UK based events know they have to increase their prize fund with all the money China and Saudi Arabia are putting into the sport.

Judd Trump was in dreamland when he only needed one more century to get his (edit)1000th and he was on a 147. However, he failed at 81 when his positional shot got him hampered over a red and he missed the black. It was still enough to beat Wilkins 4-1.

Mark Allen beat Gary Wilson 4-3. Irish professional Aaron Hill beat Ding Jinhui 4-3. Tom Ford lost 4-3 to Gong Chenzhi. The mighty Rory Thor thundered to victory over reigning champion Mark Williams.

Chris Wakelin beat Wu Yize which might have made up for his weekend.

Trump, Robertson and Allen all through comfortably. Even Marco Fu got through.

RE: British Open
Not a good day for Judd. He may have won, but no landmark century break, and he left Ryan Day so many chances, against another opponent he could easily have lost. For me the best thing about the game was that the referee was Proletina Velichkova Heart I need to see her more often.

Tatiana was looking particularly lovely while she was refereeing Jak Jones 4-0 win over Alfie Burden.

Great 4-0 for Thepchaiya Un-Nooh over Noppon Saengkham.

It's great that Bulcsu Revesz made his mark by beating a top 16 player, even better that it was Craptain Carter. But he's now losing 3-0 to Stuart Bingham so it doesn't look like he's going to progress any further in this event
