RE: *Official Football Thread*
OK as this is the ``official football thread`` its 3rd round of the FA cup this weekend so who do you fancy to lift the famous trophy?

My beloved Manchester City are at home to Forest. Fans of Forest must be licking their lips as we must hold the record for being eliminated in cup comps by clubs in a lower division [Brighton-Carling Cup this season aargh!].

Are one of the `big four` going to lift the cup - personally I was so glad Pompey did it last season as was starting to get a bit boring with the same old same old.

Outside the big four I would go for Everton - but would love City to bag the first trophy since `76. Hey Ho

We still qualified for the Champions League though, even when we were nobodies!

IMO It probably will be one of the big four, probably Arsenal as it is looking like their only chance of a trophy this year.

I'm a Manchester United fan and I can honestly say last year was one of the most enjoyable FA cup seasons I have seen in years. It's a bit of a cliche to say it but once some of the big guns started to fall the romance of the FA cup did come back. It was good to see teams not afraid to have a go at the bigger teams and get rewarded for it.

You're not wrong Spider Monkey, I don't recall cheering so hard for Barnsley since Danny Wilson was battling to keep them in the PL. I would love to see another non "big four" team win it if United don't (partisan? yes, bothered? no.). If it goes outside the top four or five teams I've got a fancy for Spurs. They've got a good history in the cup and Harry has really lifted them. I can't see them making europe, they fell too far behind at the start, but a run in the cup will lift everyone at the club. They have some real quality in the side and they might be the only "big" club to play their best players from the outset. ( By big, I mean history, fanbase and financial muscle.)

I'm going to say that it won't be one of the big four for the cup. I'd go for someone like Villa although it would be a laugh to see Hull or Wigan win it. Better than a laugh would be for West Ham to win. I would have won over £200 the year we made it to the final. Bloody Gerrard!

City do have the odd bad day - well a lot of them really !

If you catch us on one of those days you have every chance. Obviously I want the team that steamrollered Hull 5-1 and Pompey 6-0 to turn up and not the one that were beaten by the mighty Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this season [with all respect to them].

Anyway, you reds! all the best [except for today!] and hope to be locking horns with you in the Prem in the next couple of years.
