RE: Is Ofcom Fit For Purpose
well its easier to find girls to work for you if you have tame shows. and using ofcom rulings to keep your checks and ballances for content in order is a simple "we are not to blame" way of doing it.

Any Babe pics posted are my Take on existing photographs. credits for the original images stays with the copyright holder if any rights apply.

Today im wearing a gray hat. tomorrow it might be white or black, it depends on my mood

And the pro-censorship lobby, e.g. Mediawatch, aren't biased?

Mediawatch are widely regarded as a joke, a bunch of retired repressed busybodies, even by papers and MPs who daren't say so out loud.

Ofcom has a statutory duty to take account of the disabled, people in rural areas and, I think, the elderly.

When it consulted on the original Broadcasting Code in 2005, and the updated version in 2009, did it conduct Impact Assessments on the effect of tightening censorship on these groups?

No.

Imagine you are disabled. You live in a grotty council flat, you may be past the first flush of youth, you don't get out much, you don't have much money and you can't travel far easily, so realistically you can't visit sex shops for R18 vids, reach the top shelf in the newsagents, holiday in Ibiza, and the chances of your pulling an 18 year old stunner are slim.

What would be the impact on your quality of life of cutting off your only source of accessible affordable porn? Sex is recognised as a basic human need, and the European Convention on Human Rights includes the right to a sex-life. So Ofcom has failed to fulfil it's statutory duty to assess the impact of it's policies on disabled people.

Likewise an elderly man with an elderly wide who no longer has a sex drive, or who lives alone, would be disadvanted by Ofcom policies, as would anyone living more than 1 hour door-to-door from a sex shop, and that's pretty well the entire rural population.

What has Ofcom got against the disabled, the elderly and the rural population?

Some very good points I really don't think that OFCOM care about anyone other than OFCOM and they doubt they will have even heard of an EIA!!!

So many people contact OFWATCH and voice similar views. They all want OFCOM to lighten up (or go)!

RE: Is Ofcom Fit For Purpose
If I set up a forum for Election 2010 general issues would anyone be interested? Covering broadcasting including Ofcom/Babe Channels obviously, but also Economy, Education, Employment, Health, etc.

Reason for asking is I can't see anywhere else for open debate, giving large numbers of people the opportunity to put the parties on the spot. To be effective a site would need plenty of active and voting members and not limited to a single issue or tied to one party.

If no-one is interested I won't bother, but this will be the last chance to be heard for 5 years.

RE: Is Ofcom Fit For Purpose
I haven't posted on here for a while always looking in to see what is happening but no input due to the dross that the channels are now broadcasting. You may ask how is it dross, well I've been watching since the babe channels started so considering the output today you'll understand. As so many have put on here you can get better for free on the net, I know this is not the place to say but the recent lauch of BS Ex on freeview has been comical and the content not worth a £1 never mind anything else. Anyway, I can't see much happening with the current regulations regardless of which party gets in, possibly a slim line Ofcom if the tories get in to power and do cut the quangos as they have said, but we'll see, as I can't find anything in there manifesto to say otherwise and at present it's looking like a hung parliment so where will that leave ofcom! If it's a money making quango will it be high on the agenda!

I've also looked at sites such at liberty regarding ofcom powers re a previous debate on licences and according to them the only channels that can not have their licence removed by ofcom are BBC, Channel 4 and SC4. BBC can only be removed in a state of emergency by the government, as for Channel 4 and SC4 I'm unsure, I did find that S4C is funded by the government! I noticed a while ago that a few newspapers raised a fuss as to why the government funds S4C when it's viewing figures are pathetic according to BARB.

I wonder why BARB don't register the figures for the babe channels as this would be interesting as this would give a insite and information to use when approaching the likes of ofcom with any debate.
