anyone know what files the PS3's plays ? i can transfer avi. files to the console and play them but it wont read mp4 files or play them.

can anyone explain this, its imposible to explain without sounding like an idiot, anyway this morning i came in and thought id watch the book of eli on sky anytime. i started watching and after about ten miniutes i realised there was no sound, obviously thats not the strange part, what was strange was that i could hear all the background stuff like car engines and people walking up and down the streets and the fight sound effects i even put subtitles on, that worked fine i just couldnt hear them speaking so then i tried the tv in the kitchen and its perfect in they're, i dont have sky multiroom its just linked through an ariel. obviously at first i thought it was the tv that was screwed so i left it went to bed came down this morning and its reversed now, the tv in the kitchen is screwed up and the one in the livingroom is fine, all the other channels are fine. im sure theyre will be questions, even as i read this back it doesnt make a bit of sense.

i dont mind posting on here my problem i just dont want to ring sky because they will think im mental.

audio setup is set at 4.1 or above. what your hearing is the back speakers the front 1s aint pluged in.
set the audio to stereo 2.0/2.1

how do you play an .mkv file ? i click open and it says windows cannot play this file !

download vlc player. it plays most formats.

Make sure that all the cables are plugged in properly into the sky box and same into the Tv , like the scart lead or HDMI cable if it Sky+ HD. Hope this helps.

I've been using vlc for a while; very versatile. However, I've noticed that in dvd-playback mode (not sure about cds, never used it for that), it always gives a stutter/jump about a minute into any dvd. I even did a clean reinstall, but still the same problem.

It's just a little thing, but it's quite annoying. Anyone else had this problem/any ideas how to solve it?
