BSkyB was the company that was formed when Sky Television merged with British Satellite Broadcasting in 1990. BSkyB is the company that owns and operates Sky television.
News Corporation currently owns 39% of BSkyB, and was seeking to buy the remaining 61% that it didn't own before it withdrew its offer following the fallout over its role in the 'phone hacking' scandal. News Corporation has always been a major shareholder in BSkyB, but it has never been a majority shareholder.
Rupert Murdoch's family personally owns around 29% of News Corporation, although because not all shares issued are voting shares (ie. some shares are only entitled to receive dividends rather than also having voting rights), the 29% of shares the Murdoch family do own (which are all voting shares) effectively gives him majority control (ie. over 50%) over the company's decisions.

RE: Is censorship a necessary evil
As I've mentioned before, after 9pm Adult content is allowable under the current guidelines, however when you have dedicated Adult channels in a dedicated EPG SKY slot, i ask myself what on earth is all the fuss and bother about, and why Ofcom have got a bee in there bonnets about all of this?
I could understand if these free to air adult channels would be on after the BBC channels, and quite rightly some sort of censorship would have to be implemented. So by rights censorship should be a lot more relaxed concerning the SKY babe channels.
For one thing, you can't stumble on these channels by accident, its an impossibility, you have to physically either input or select the adult section to view these channels. So I'm quite frankly at a loss as to why Ofcom feel the need to protect us from seeing a woman's pussy, its as simple as that.
The irony to all of this, is that the majority of teenagers have smartphones/computers etc etc and they can access hardcore porn walking on there way to school quite easily with there handsets, yet
Ofcom feels the need to keep the general public safe and secure just in case we happen to stumble on a lesbian 241 or incase they open there legs and show there pussy's?? Oh here's the classic useless defence of Ofcom, it might cause wide and harmful offence mmmh let me think about this for a moment. From the hrs of say 10-5.30am when most of the population are asleep, well that argument is floored from the start.
At the end of the day, i really hope the government will deregulate Ofcom, and in doing so, allow the Adult population to make there own choices to watch what they want to watch in there own homes.
