I think I saw STAR WARS in 1978 when I was 12 and I remember the queues were amazing snaking all around the cinema. I always thought that Chewbacca was a pitiful creature at not being able to speak and I found his 'voice' upsetting but Mayhew brought a real sense of fun and pathos to the character. I hope the Force is with him.

Mime actors don't get enough credit for the amazing work they do,he brought a dignity to the character of Chewbacca.RIP Sad
