The World Cup count down, come on England!

I hate to say it, but I don't think blaming the manager or passion is the reason we are out. Fact of the matter is, at grass roots level we don't teach our players the correct way. How come small countries like Portugal and The Netherlands can create players with great technical ability and we can't? It comes down to the coaching in this country.

It's a combination of many things.
Firstly, the manager is responsible. The result was bad, the performance was pathetic. His tactics, team and squad selection were flawed.

Seth mentioned it, the teaching of kids. They're encouraged to curb their flair. On the continent it's the opposite, no restriction, express yourself. There's too much emphasis on teaching kid's how to play football at a young age instead of allowing them to express their talents. The fact that there was only 1 flair play in the squad says it all, and even he wasn't utilised much.

The major errors Capello made were in my opinion, not taking Scott Parker, and not playing him in the first team. The current midfield wasn't dynamic. It's fine playing Barry against Algeria and co, but against big teams you need either a holding player or a deep lying playmaker. Neither were present in the squad, unless u count Ledley King. Not taking Walcott in the squad was a mistake considering his raw pace to try and get behind defenses.
Another mistake he made was not playing Heskey in the Germany game. He has a big value in holding the ball up, feeding Rooney. We struggle to keep the ball at the best of times, having a big lump like Heskey would have been useful.
Nullifying the threat of Gerrard, probably England's only true world class player, by playing him out of position to accommodate Barry was another huge mistake.

But all in all, we weren't good enough. The media hyped up the team ridiculously and then claim it wasn't them lol. The answer to the question of why they can't replicate the form from club level is simple. They play with better players, with more attacking style, with more balance throughout the team, players who are technically sound and also they play in formations which allow flair players to flourish.
We played 4-4-2, with no quick, tricky wingers, who don't even have a high quality and consistency of crossing ability to compensate the lack of pace and skill.

He is right there is a little englander mentality so its all capellos fault and to say they cant understand him is utter tripe so that means Terry lampard and the two coles musnt be able to understand carlo ancelloti at Chelsea if thats the case sure gerrard and caragher wasnt able to understand benetiz at liverpool or sure rooney could not understand SAF at old trafford when he goes off on one in his scottish accent

Think i know why most players wont play i think its cos they play here most teams like brazil and argentina even Ghana New zealand and Australiains dont play in there own leagues so when they get picked to play for there countrys it menas an awful lot more where as ourt lot get treated like gods week in week out really need for players to go into all the leaguse in the world to learn skills and other ways of playing

A few stats:

• Wayne Rooney has lost the ball by being tackled in possession more often than any other player at the 2010 world cup finals
• Rooney also completed only 55% of his passes for England against Germany - the lowest rate in the game
• Germany scored 4 goals from 6 shots on target, while England had 7 attempts on target. Total goal attempts was Germany 17, England 18.
• Manuel Neuer's assist for Klose's goal was the first by a goalkeeper at the world cup since 1966 (Kavazashvili for USSR)
• The last time England conceded four goals in a world cup finals game was in 1954 v Uruguay
• England had greater possession than Germany, 55% to 45%.

Those stats highlight the key areas in which England failed to make the best use of their players, their positions on the field and their scouting abilities on other teams. These things are the manager's responsibilty.

I have not seen England play so ineptly defensively as they did against Germany. The first job in a game of football should be defence. If you don't concede, you automatically have a chance of a result in the game. The whole team has to take responsibilty for failing to work as a cohesive unit, thus allowing the Germans to rip through us like knife through butter. You could have drove a London bus through the middle of that defence there was that much space.

I was annoyed even more this morning when on the news report I saw Ledley King and Ashley Cole step off the team bus after arriving back at the hotel laughing and joking without a care in the world - this highlights the lack of passion and desire within the players, and the rift that has grown between these so called superstars and the fans who effectively pay their wages. These things are the players responsiblity.

The entire England setup has let down the supporters and the country. I hope their cornflakes made them choke a little at breakfast this morning...

Can i say as a neutral that england played shit but i dont think its as bad as everyone is saying you've still got good young players coming through

At least some good came out of England's debacle against Germany - amazingly Sepp Blatter has now said it's time to look at goalline technology again! So Lampard's "goal" will no doubt become famous now as the goalline incident that forced FIFA into an about turn.

Interesting stats, particulary the Rooney ones. I suspect that the 3rd and last stats are somewhat attributable to the fact that England were chasing the game/goals for most of the match, whereas the German's had identified our defence as being weak and so their strategy was to hit us on the break.
