Phil Hughes RIP

It appears that the injury was to the back of his neck. And it was internal bleeding which affected his brain.

It's expected that neck guards could now be fitted to helmets in the future.

If they do so, they have to be designed in a way that not only offers protection but also still allow movement when wearing a helmet which is important. Helmet design has come a long way, but any improvement has to be welcomed.

Shocked at the loss of a great player. I hope they don't have a knee jerk reaction to safety as I doubt Phil would have wanted that.

Absolutely tragic news this morning, my heart goes out to the Hughes family. I simply cannot imagine how Sean Abbott must be feeling and if it was me, regardless of it being my livelihood, I would have to retire from the game. Psychologically, how could you ever bowl another cricket ball in a competitive match?

I sincerely hope that the social media leave both families alone and show some sympathy & respect at such a dreadful time.

It has been reported that Sean Abbott may never play again. All the current rounds of the Sheffield Shield were cancelled, and the days play in the test between Pakistan and New Zealand was also cancelled.

I echo the same sentiments mate both families need their privacy & Support and the whole cricket community needs to protect Sean and give him the best care and attention. He was just doing his job and he shouldn't have to blame himself, I'm sure Phil's family will bear him no grudge, and also give him their love and support Cricket is in a very dark place at the moment

What would be a fitting tribute to Phil would be to see his name on either The Big Bash trophy (T20 competition in Australia) or maybe on the world Cup (as a way of the whole international cricket community honouring a respected player). There can be no better lasting tribute to him IMO.
But it has amazed me how the how the whole sporting world has come together following the tragic events I would also love to see Phil be posthumously given the BBC overseas personality of the year award which would be a wonderful mark of respect.

I have read a lot of rubbish online about changes that need to happen to equipment, rules etc.... all things which i imagine Phil Hughes would have hated. The game he loved messed with. One thing which needs to be looked at, is why did he half turn his head away from the oncoming ball? Coaches need to drill it into the kids, eyes always on the ball and if u cannot sway out of the way or duck it, then u can see it to lift gloves.

I would imagine and agree that any changes that were made Phil probably would have hated but some good will come out of this tragedy I'm sure you will agree on that. But that the same when I watch that vide of the incident, something tells me that Phil was positioning him self for his shot or anticipated the bouncer and was caught out of position. I agree with what you say coaches do need to drill it into the kids to keep the eyes on the ball at all times

There's been a question about him wanting to continue to play cricket again.
