Two brothers who mocked a judge on Facebook because she did not send them to prison were later recalled and handed two years each behind bars.

Just 40 minutes after Daniel Sledden, 27, received a suspended jail term from Judge Beverley Lunt earlier this month, he posted online: “Cannot believe my luck 2 year suspended sentance (sic) beats the 3 year jail yes pal! Beverly [sic] Lunt go suck my ****”.

His brother, Samuel Sledden, 22, wrote: “What a day it's been Burnley crown court! Up ur **** aha nice 2 year suspended...”

The defendants, from Lancashire, were called back to Preston Crown Court for a review of their sentence once the remarks had been brought to the attention of the judge.

The Sleddens originally received a two-year jail term, suspended for two years, after they admitted to being involved in the supply of cannabis in 2014.

Both will now serve two years after the suspension was lifted by Judge Lunt.

A semi-professional footballer who falsely claimed he would be injured for a month after a road accident has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Gary Burnett, who played for Northwich Victoria, said he suffered whiplash in a crash outside a McDonald's drive-thru in Birkenhead in October 2013.

But the day after claiming he was injured, he tweeted: "Nice little trek to Kendal later for footy". The 25-year-old also tweeted about playing and scoring in the FA Trophy less than three weeks after the accident.

The striker's tweets alerted motor insurers, who began an investigation which led to him being found in contempt of court for making false statements in personal injury proceedings.

He was given four months in prison, suspended for a year. He was also ordered to pay £500 costs in addition to £11,000 to insurer Aviva after his damages claim was ruled fundamentally dishonest.

A hotel chef has been fired after bragging on his Instagram account about how he enjoyed secretly feeding meat to vegans.

30-year-old head chef Alex Lambert was fired from his job at Littleover Lodge Hotel, Derby, when it was discovered he bragged about how it was his "personal favourite" to feed meat products to vegans.

His contract was terminated after vegan campaigners pressured the hotel for two days, accusing him of abusing the human rights of those who choose not to eat meat products.

Mr Lambert said his comments on Instagram were untrue, and he said them to "piss off" a vegan he was having a row with.

A man who avoided prison after being convicted of a street attack has been jailed for refusing to perform unpaid work, then boasting about it online.

David Newlands, 24, was given 150 hours community service for punching a vulnerable man in Glasgow last year.

He refused to perform the unpaid work and was twice given another chance.

Judge Norman Ritchie jailed Newlands for nine months after hearing of his Facebook boasts about having avoided the unpaid work.

The judge added: "As they say, LOL."
