TalkTalk Cyber attack

I'm not surprised that Talk Talk's share price has fallen since the attack I wonder how many share holders will be thinking about keeping their shares with the company..

And now M&S's loyalty card has suffered a security breach...are we now going to see a more intensified period of security breaches of company websites?

Hat's off to the young fellow. Quite an achievement and I admire his ingenuity. Rather like the Hatton Garden raiders. Pity they got caught.

don't you feel sorry for the people whose data may have been stolen?

I'm a TalkTalk customer myself.

The fact he got caught so quickly leads me to suspect he was not ingenius at all, rather just a dumb script-kiddie, playing with stuff he downloaded from somewhere else, not even his own work.

EDIT : Finally got a reply from Plusnet, seems they are trialling self-install fibre, i.e. they send you the modem and router to plugin and setup yourself, no engineer visit, so I guess they are back on the list of options, but further down now due to the shoddy response time.

Another update email has arrived. This is the 4th one I've had. According to latest info, very few Talktalk customers are affected, except for phone number and email address being stolen. It seems the problems are nowhere near what was first feared and are zero in many cases.

But a hack however amateurish it was - is still a hack and an embarrassment for TalkTalk right? They have shown up as not heeding any warnings they were previously given

The more amateurish the hack was, the worse it makes it, shows how piss poor their security was!
Also, the account section of the website is STILL offline. Nothing to worry about, nothing to see here, yet still they don't trust their own security enough to open the site properly.

The only email I've had is my bill which came through thursday. I normally pay that as soon as it comes through, so I get the 10% prompt payment discount. Couldn't even get that this time around because of the site being down (I couldn't be bothered trying to phone in and wait an eternity in a queue).

Talk Talk is nowhere near the first nor will it be the last online business to be hacked. Every major business company you deal with online that keeps records of personal details is constantly at risk and needs to be on the look out for suspicious activity. Having said that for a telecommuinications company specialising in computer business Talk Talk security seems to have been extremely lax. Encryption of all stored data should be the basic minimum customers shpuld be able to expect from a reputable company. Cyber crime however is probably the biggest threat most of us face and nothing can ever guarantee 100% security. Now its Vodafone facing problems. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34688851
