They say my account wasn't accessed and therefore I wasn't affected.

RE: TalkTalk Cyber attack
Well my debit card got scammed this week. No real way of knowing where they got the details from, but it had to be from online somewhere (I don't use it in shops).
The girl in the bank fraud department said they were well busy, with issues relating to cards tied to the likes of paypal and amazon and EE/T-mobile accounts. I mentioned talktalk and she laughed, that was next on her list.
I didn't get a chance to get further details, but I'd imagine the paypal and amazon issues are from phishing emails rather than the sites being compromised, I think we'd have heard about that. So most likely candidates for me are either EE or talktalk, either this latest 'hack', or possibly one of the earlier ones. To be honest, I think EE is the culprit, but who knows. All sorted now anyhow.

On another note, I have been using the Speedy Payment Discount, which was discontinued start of this month. They have been advertising a 'goodwill gesture' as compensation for this, but the link has been down following the 'hassle' and no-one seems to have been very clear on the details. Well they finally seem to have sorted it out, and it seems the goodwill gesture is basically the same as the free upgrades they are offering as apology for their security breach. This list is dependant on your existing package and discounts etc.
I rang up, and for me there was only one such offer left, and it was of no use to me, something about mobile phone international calls. I know of others being offered billing discounts instead, so I refused to accept that there was nothing else they could do for me and got put through to the customer loyalty team. Once there, they reviewed my package and offered me the Simply Broadband part of my package free for 3 months. Not a bad deal in the end, well worth hassling them for.

Talktalk did claim that if card details they hold were accessed by a hacker it would only be with some of the card numbers replaced with an x.

I did the same a couple of weeks ago, but they still sent me an email today offering me the upgrade choices again.

A 17 year old has pleaded guilty to charges over the TalkTalk hacking in October last year and will be sentenced next month.
