As was pointed out in the Trivia thread The Flintstones was based on The Honeymooners a sitcom of the 50's starring Jackie Gleason(Ralph Cramden) and Art Carney(Ed Norton) the dim Barney Rubble-type character) with Fred Flintstone based on Gleason. The series was going to be called The Flagstones-somehow that just doesn't work. The Flintstones and Top Cat(Boss Cat here) and Scooby-Doo also featured in a series of commercials for Halifax Building Society in this country. Why? I have no idea.

The trilogy of Bugs and Daffy cartoons(although they appeared in others) with Elmer Fudd as the hunter in order are: 'Rabbit Fire' 'Rabbit Seasoning' and 'Duck, Rabbit Duck!' also check out the genius of 'Bugs' Bonnets' - find them and a whole load of others at http://www.wco.tv

I would also recommend 'Rabbit Hood', 'Knighty Knight Bugs' and 'Robin Hood Daffy' as well the Oscar-winning cartoon 'What's Opera Doc?' which is visually astounding and very clever. Warner Brothers cartoons were never all cute and cuddly and if you watch some of the lesser-known Bugs Bunny stuff you will see that it can be quite vicious - I always maintain that these things were never intended for just kids. When some of the animators who worked on Tex Avery cartoons wanted real life stuff they would(like Disney) draw from real things, so in one cartoon when they wanted to show a female chameleon shedding its skin they hired a stripper and drew her as she peeled off her clothes(as the chameleon changed to a human form like a stripper) Nice work if you could get it eh? Warner Brothers' cartoonists in the days of Chuck Jones, Bob McKimson and others worked in a building that was nicknamed Termite Terrace and Chuck tells a story in his book 'Chuck Reducks' that sometimes someone would throw a firecracker(dud) into the room and see what reaction it got - the boys were infamous in playing practical jokes too.

Super Friends -- Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman and, most importantly, the Wonder Twins! (shape of .... a bucket of water!!)

The GI Joe cartoon was pretty good. And knowing that is half the battle. The TV show, 'Community' did a wonderful spoof of it recently.

And I have vague memories of a Dungeons & Dragons cartoon where a bunch of teenagers were given weapons with special powers. There was a guy with a magic bow, a cloak of invisibility and a magic hat.

Also, there was a version of Robin Hood in space. I think it was called Rocket Robin Hood. There was a song.

(BTW, we are all aging ourselves with this game!)

A bit of trivia regarding the Inspector Gadget intro that Skyline posted.
The intro on the pilot episode featured Gadget with a moustache, which was subsequently removed at the producer's request as they feared they would be sued by MGM because Gadget looked too much like Inspector Clouseau.

Super Friends-oddly enough I am downloading a load of episodes called Challenge of the Super Friends- a lot of them.
GI Joe-nope not heard of that although we had Action Man figures which was the British equivalent and there was a cartoon which I've never seen. Dungeons and Dragons-fabulous cartoon series Donnie Most(Ralph Malph in Happy Days) did the voice of Cavalier and there was Magician, Acrobat, Ranger, Thief and Barbarian with that annoying Uni the Unicorn all battling against the evil of Venger and Shadowdemon and a fire & ice breathing dragon called Tiermath. Rocket Robin Hood-oh yes I remember seeing that on ITV here I don't recall the song. All these and others can be found on that excellent cartoon website I posted the link to-it's a cartoon heaven.

RE: THE Cartoon/Animation thread (Discussion)
Here's another bit of trivia this time from animated series 'The Magic Roundabout'. Eric Thompson narrated the series and based the character's voice of Dougal on Tony Hancock but the French weren't happy at the name because they thought we were taking the mickey out of Charles De Gaulle, one of their beloved Presidents. However when it was pointed out that Dougal was a Scottish name they calmed down a bit Big Grin Also Phillyda Law(mother of Sophie and Emma actresses) hated the name Eric for some reason(she was married to him) and just called him Thompson-odd family that lot!
