And with Sam then, what was the connection with his last episode when he appeared to be back in normal life..... but then jumped off the building.

they moved on, they had all come to terms with their deaths. the place was for coppers that died a troubled death, like in all the 3 videos, gene's death, alex's death and sam's death. they were going into the light.

as for sam, he didn't die in the first ep, he was in a very deep coma, near death, then he came out of it, into the real world, but didn't like it, so jumped off to die and go back to the coppers purgatory.

Arr I'm with you ....it actually makes more sense now I will miss the series excellent concept....thanks for your explanations and opinions ......funny just going to watch last nights 'Lost' now so more riddles to unravel !

Keats was performing the same role as Frank Morgan did in LOM, so maybe they were one and the same entity - which is pretty much the devil.

Nelson always seemed to have a 'knowing' slant to his conversations with Sam in LOM but nothing ever concrete. He could just have been a wise barman(?) who knows.

Yes, I do over think things, that's just me, I can't fight it so I might as well embrace it!

Because Gene Hunt was brutally murdered, he created himself a reality in which he gave other officers the chance to have a second chance at life. So Gene is like a guide as it were, helping them get ready and then passing over, whereas keats is the devil or like the devil, wanting them for his 'department'

He explained that Sam/Annie went to the Pub, meaning they finally found their final resting place and crossed over. Shaz, Chris, Ray and Alex all crossed over too, so now they are dead in the real world and in Gene's world too

Fair enough when you put it like that. It was an anti climax though as someone said before it was heading that way for sometime. Keats being the devil was a surprise for me.

Spiderman,Spiderman,does whatever a Spider can!!!

RE: Ashes to Ashes
Interesting article from digital spy:

Matthew Graham has revealed that he initially wanted John Simm to return for last night's Ashes To Ashes finale.

Graham, who co-created the sci-fi drama with Ashley Pharoah, admitted that Simm's Life On Mars alter ego DI Sam Tyler was originally meant to come out of the Railway Arms instead of Nelson to greet the Ashes faithful.

He told The Guardian: "There was originally a version where John came back. It was never scripted but it was storylined. Everyone seemed to really like it. We were all quite happy and excited about it."

However, he admitted that such a move would have insulted the identity of the standalone '80s spinoff as well as the show's star Keeley Hawes, who played DI Alex Drake.

Graham explained: "Then we suddenly thought that it would steal all of Keeley's thunder, it would undermine Ashes as a show and also Sam's supposed to be dead, so he should be in heaven.

"It suddenly made him seem like a superhero - he could go from purgatory to heaven and back again. So we decided not to do that. We never asked him."
