^^^ to be fair it’s set 900 years in the future it just looks weird because the Nacelles aren’t attached to the ship.

I thought it was a decent start felt more like a movie then show, Holly Hunter was great she’s always been a good actress, Robert Picardo was good too him as the doctor it’s like his character never left, Paul Giamatti you can tell his character is a nasty piece of work especially in the beginning and Gina Yashere character seems very interesting.
However the show suffers a little bit the with typical troupes, the rebel character, the asshole and annoying one if could cut down on this and some of the cringe then it could have potential but i get at the same time however that there teenagers so there supposed to be annoying lol.

RE: Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
I went into this with very low expections, like do we really need an angsty teen "CW Trek", like the similar and very awful space academy series Pandora?

But the first couple of episodes actually turned out better than I thought. Seems to be aimed to entice a younger Trek audience with enough Easter eggs for the older Trekkers to watch alongside.

Don't get me wrong it's got its problems, well worn character archetyes like the lead Caleb and some cringey dialogue and 'jokes'. But it's got enough positives to stick with it and see where it goes. The diverse characters are genuinely quite likable, and the Holly Hunter & Paul Giamatti dynamic is very good. Holly is already a favourite captain, if only they had her helming Discovery with better writing lol

Treks generally don't start at their best, so like I said I'm interested to see where it goes.

Same, I thought it was gonna be Dawson's Creek in space, may still end up like that though, depending if they make too much of the budding romance stuff. lol. Having watched the first two episodes now, I can honestly say that I didn't dislike it as much as I thought I would, which is a shock, but I don't think it's good as it should be either.

The characters definitely need work, there is potential with some, but others meh, for example, I liked the Doctor in Voyager, don't care for him in this at all, surplus to requirement, the hologram character I find rather annoying, but that could change, because Data was often annoying, the Klingon, for shame, pussy.
The main guy Caleb they should have gone the Ronan Dex route, but they put him in uniform and instantly made him less interesting, there's still potential with him, but they should have gone a bit darker with how he sees things, if they make him soft after everything he's supposedly been through, then that is just bad character development. Holly's Nahla is fun/quirky, Gina Yashere as Thok could go either way, could grow on me, could get annoying. The others I could take or leave at the moment, need to see more of them. Oh and as much as I love Colbert, what the fuck, do we need that many announcements. lol.

It's like a 6.5 out of 10 show at the moment, room to improve, but not must watch. I like Star Trek, so I do hope it improves, but I'm still sceptical.
