Fergusons arrogance cost him. Man Utd are far to big to put their big guns up against little teams(people) like burnley, from the start. It is the premier league for gods sake show some repect for a fellow top tier football team and stop putting weakened team out against them. I'm surprise he does not get permission from the fa to boycott the premier league so he can concentrate on the champions league more intensely.Big Grin

Do you make all this stuff up as you go along? Ferdinand and Vidic were injured, not left out. Are you fantasising?

to be fair:
man utd dominated gameplay and control of the ball for 9/10 of the game and were very unlucky on the final 3rd of the pitch, also jensen, burnleys saviour, saves a poor penalty and lead his team to an unbelievable victory, and cappello was in the crowd, so added pressure for the english players to perform

to be true:
you'd think after about 10 premier league seasons as champions ferguson wouldn't of underestimated a club with nothing to lose, everything to gain, and it confuses me why he picked carrick to take the penalty when he has owen, berbatov, rooney and valencia who are great penalty takers

Was it really a weakened team though?:
(Keep in mind injuries)

Foster (VDS injured)

O'Shea Brown Evans Evra (Ferd. n Vidic injured)

Park Anderson Carrick Giggs (3/4 played in the champions league final v Chelsea)

Rooney Owen (One of the best players in the league and a renowned goalscorer)

I think Man U fans have just gotta hold their hands up and say well done Burnley, rather than blame SAF

Little rude and over the top please learn some manners and learn how to make your point with out being disrespectful.
Valencia and Berbatov were left on the bench for Owen and Giggs. If that was a champion league match are you telling me Owen and Giggs would have started over Valencia and Berbatov?

Who knows? Berbatov was left out of their Champions League sides a few times last season, including the final too. And it remains to be seen what part Valencia plays for Man Utd.

Ferguson will rotate his side whatever, as he always does. He will rotate it in the Champions League too.

A very good point. However, Ferguson had Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez at his disposal both Tevez and Ronaldo have gone(as we all know) so the competition was just Owen (in Berbatovs case) who is not match fit and has not played more than a handful of competitve games for the last 18 months. It does seem strange if he did decide to rotate at this stage of the season, they are not tired nor are there at this precise moment in time bigger games on the horizon. I feel that Ferguson underestimated Burnley and felt that what ever team he chose should prevail.

According to Sky Sports it was 67% -- i.e. 2/3 and not 9/10 as you claim.

Poor things.

Correct, he wouldn't.

You can't take a penalty from the bench, which is where Berbatov and Valencia were.

Here's something to confuse you even more. The person according to Ferguson who was first in line to take the penalty was none of the players you name, but Nani. As he was unavailable, Carrick stepped up instead.

As for the great penalty takers you list, Owen only scored 13 out of 23 when he played for Liverpool - actually, not so great after all? Berbatov's last penalty was a comical effort in the FA Cup semi-final and as was pointed out in the post above, neither he nor Valencia were on the pitch anyway. Rooney could have taken it, but then he missed one last season, whereas before last night Carrick's penalty taking record for Man Utd was 5/5.

fair points but he could of substituted a 1 of them on a little sooner as well.

as for nani being there first in line shocks me alittle rather then confuses, although i don't really know a lot about nani so he could be a brilliant taker for penalties.

and the penalty stats do show carrick is good at taking them but we're talking about that penalty, england on paper have brilliant penalty takers but together england have still only won 1 shootout.
