RE: New Ofcom Rules
Content Board Minutes 89 20 September 2010 Wrote:Video on Demand Services (VOD)

8.Colleagues advised that they had published the statement on the regulation of video on demand services in December. [Redacted from published minutes].

R18 Material

9. This was highlighted as an area of VOD regulation that colleagues were still discussing with DCMS. Ofcom and DCMS are currently debating whether additional safeguards should be put in place to protect minors from R18 material on VOD. Colleagues would come back to the Content Board on this issue in due course.

People have been saying for months on this forum that video on demand WILL be subject to tighter controls. So far it is just UK on demand services and R18 is permitted, provided there are age controls, but it establishes control and concept. From here it is a small step to force all UK video downloads to comply - not just on demand TV. Then non UK. Finally someone says how come Ofcom controls both TV and On Demand Internet TV, but R18 is banned on TV but allowed on the web?

one thing i cannot understand is the babe channels all know that the way things are eventually even the people who are still ringing in to watch what i call early evening entertainment will become bored of the statuesque figures on the screen ,the die hard fans will have long been gone and they will have no choice but to cease broadcasting ,they are in fact cutting their own throats by simply standing in a straight line and not daring to oppose these out of date rules,i wonder how do ofcom go about employing their panel ....theres an interesting thought Sad

Of one thing you can be certain - there will not be one consumer of the babe channels will be employed, nor will their views be taken seriously and hell will freeze over before there is an advocate of these channels getting anywhere near being involved in the decision making.Huh

The official line is that it is not for the UK government to regulate other countries TV. But that still leaves the reality that French, Spanish, German etc TV can be picked up in the UK. So why don't Ofcom bother? Perhaps because these can only be picked up with special disks, not Sky, and very few people have these. Perhaps the minority of adults with non-Sky dishes do not have children, or are more responsible than Sky viewers. Follow that argument and it will drive you mad.

Shankey is quite right by the way, many free Euro channels have tamed down. Check it out carefully before spending money.

The ironic thing is that the best period for free Euro on satellite was the 80s, when Sky was on the same satellite as German and Dutch channels, and some of those channels were quite fruity. This was a consequence of changes to the law that removed all restrictions on receiving foreign TV. And whose government passed this piece of freedom legislation? Margaret Thatcher.

Sexysat is still going on astra 19.2 east ,around channel 352,as is erotica, around 329.just out of interrest. you can buy a F.T.A satellite system for around £50-£70 ,much cheaper than a free view antener

Quite. In fact all you need is a 60cm dish (picked up for next to nowt and pointed at hotbird or Astra) and a digital lnb (the bit that goes on the end of the arm). You can then plug this into your Sky box and tune fta channels like eUrotic via Sky's 'Add channels' feature. Bare in mind, though, that constantly switching the dish cable between the 60cm dish (for the Euro stuff) and your minidish (for Sky) is a pain in the arse. Better to get a cheap digital reciever (which can also be picked up for next to nowt).

I also concur with the rest that (eUrotic, at least) is much much tamer than it used to be. Not really worth the bother right now.

Might be worth seeing if there is a webstream you can check out beforeshelling out cash. Some of the free to view channels have these.
