for all the gun crime that happens in the US, the one they are right on is the continuation of the death penalty, too many people over here commit sick crimes, show no remorse and still have cosy lives even when they locked up for life, look at ian Huntley for example he was given life then a while later the newspapers report how he has a television, gets to eat gourmet meals etc, its a joke what goes on around here

I'm against the death penalty in principal, although in fits of rage I'll often wish some scumbags were put out of our misery. I agree with Skully that a life sentence should mean their entire life, without the possibility of parole.

However, even if that was to be the case, denial of freedom still permits lags a pretty decent life all things considered. What should follow a whole of life sentence, is spending that life with the bare minimum to maintain their physical and mental health -- nothing more!

If prison was a scarier place, maybe criminality would be less of a problem for society. Those two bastards expected to die at the hands of the police rather than be jailed, so keeping them alive would be an even more fitting punishment.

Hope these two are never released from jail

This is one of those rare cases where there is absolutely no doubt as to who committed this vile attack. There were dozens of witnesses, CCTV & Video evidence and they attacked the Met Police ARV Crews when they arrived on scene. The Death Penalty would be appropriate if successive Governments hadn't sold our arses to Brussels.

As it stands, i have no doubt that they will be "got at" in Prison. Segregation only works as up to a point, they will come into contact with the General Population at some stage. The boiling water & sugar trick will do nicely.

i wouldnt want the death penalty for these two. would just turn them into martyrs to there cause just need to put them in solitary for life years so no one even remembers who the hell they are

First and foremost I'd also just like to clarify my stance on the death penalty and even the return of it for cases such as this and that is that I am firmly opposed to it. Its a disgusting practice which should be abolished worldwide.

I'm sure that a lot of us would relish in seeing those 2 evil extremists at the end of a rope but I wouldn't. Also I'm not in favour either of those 2 living out the rest of their sentence in solitary confinement either, put them in with the rest of the prisoners, that way not only are they going to jail but they will have to live out each day in fear of their lives, never knowing if and when they will be attacked next.

As for the sentence I expect them to be locked away forever, never to be released. It was one of the most brutal attacks and savage murders that this country has ever seen, just like what they did to poor Lee Rigby the judge and jury should show those 2 absolutely no mercy at all.

Against the death penalty, but these guys shouldn't ever see the sun again. Pity it aint their sick teachers that are banged up with them!

One has been given a whole life term, the other has been sentenced to 45 years.

Lee Rigby was subjected to a death sentence. Instant "justice" meted out by 2 people who knew exactly what they were doing and who attempted to justify it on religious grounds.

Meanwhile, his killers will be fed & watered for the rest of their lives and one of them has some hope of being free, albeit after 45 years.

I am sick & tired of hearing that we are a civilised society and the death penalty is barbaric. Only civilised people deserve civilised treatment.

The sentences are appropriate for the most vile of crimes.
I would suggest 24 hour suicide watch to prevent the two of them taking the cowards way out.
They clearly wanted to sacrifce their lives at the scene of their crime and were thankfully prevented from doing so in order that they could face the judicial system bearing its teeth.
Every effort should be made to ensure any ideas they have about martyrdom are not allowed to bear the fruit they would wish for in jail and that they die in jail on the terms of the sentence handed down rather than their own terms.
