RE: The "Official Footbal thread" part two...
Sorry to see Newcastle go down but it's seemed inevitable for a few seasons - it's been more of a circus than a football club, several clowns walking a tightrope and now the big top's fallen down. I think Shearer was only brought in to soften the blow which everyone expected. Michael Owen will be on his way as we speak (to Arsenal, Blackburn, Everton or Man City) at a guess. Viduka will call it a day, wouldn't be surprised if Nicky Butt retires as well and Alan Smith may go home to Leeds.
Where do you start for who'll get relegated next season though - Hull, sunderland, wolves, birmingham, bolton, blackburn, sheffield utd or Burnley. Stoke, Portsmouth, wigan even - if you're half decent there's well over forty points guaranteed off that lot, home and away.

RE: The "Official Footbal thread" part two...
the problem with the newcastle fans are that they are incredibly unrealistic.
They idolise Keven Keegan yet he is proven to be, extremly limited as a tactician, spotter and developer of talent, and a quitter who bolts at the first sign of trouble.
Look at how he walked out on England (straight after the germany deafeat) when they had a big qualiying game coming up a few days later stating' i am not up to it at international level' everyone (most of all newcastle fans) said it was proof that he was honest to himself and the fans. Absolut rubbish if he quit after the finland game stating that argument where England had at least 3 or 4 months to prepare for the next game then I would say yes he is an honest man but the fact that he made that decision straight after the germany game with the team having 3 days left to prepare is the behaviour of a spoilt rash adolescent.(did the nasty fans shout at you Kevin? awww)
he did well at newcastle previously when they and Man utd were the only teams who had serious money and he tried to get rid of the youth team (which for once the fans showed great judgement and made obvious they would not tolerate) proving then that he was a check book manager who had no interest in medium or long term building of the club . True they played very attractive exciting Football but they had the money to buy top class footballers and anyoe with the backing Keegan had could have done the same. How did he reward the clubs faith in him? thats right he walked out on them.
Sam Alladyce however with his proven record of building teams up from obscurity at Bolton; who as soon as he arrived said it will take at least 3 years for his policies to take effect; such as getting players out he does not want, getting players in he does, finding a way to get them to play together and developing a culture at the club; had them at tenth after 5 months in charge when the supporters put incredible pressure on Mike ashley to remove him (saying you dont know what you are doing) for a man such as King Kev.
A real shocker that did not turn out well. Surprise surprise he walked out again; to be fair he was promised he would be allowed to do it hs way and have only his players and Ashley did not honour that. But the fact he would not have an open check book and do what most managers are expected to do i.e optimise scarce resouces I believe was a bigger reason.
Many months later arrive super Al their knight in shinning armour( Who incidently, was offered the job straight after Keegan walked out and turned it down) now going to take over with 9 games left . And he was hailed their saviour. It was a no lose situtaion for Shearer and he knew it. Keep them up he would be a god, get relegated it was that ghastly Sam Alladyce, and the cockney mafias fault. Well now they have got him they deserve him, they are stuck with him. True his legendary status might buy him time but we all know that if Newcastle are not flying high and dead certs to come up next season, around january time, the fans will find a conveneint scapegoat. lets not forget Shearer got Bobby Robson the sack so he will have no sympathy if and when the newcastle fans turn on him.
To sum up Newcastle fans have no appreciation of who is a good manager, what it takes to be a great manager nor the patience to let his policies bear fruit. As a result their will come a time when no good manager in his right mind will want to come anywhere near Newcastle.
