Question, whoever it was who saw fit to pass me at speed & with barely a metres gap, driving a Quashqai may I ask what the actual fuck were you doing when the road was empty & wide enough to land a fucking jumbo jet on ? Qunt

I'm talking about dried mud, not the wet stuff, farm vehicles who are only going about their job carry it off the fields onto the roads, if it happens ton rain enough it eventually gets washed away if not the traffic literally welds it to the road & you're stuck with it for weeks. Cycling through this is not much fun.
I have no real answer, the farmers don't really have time to clean up after themselves & it is unlikely that the local council have the resources to deal with the issue.

No, it's absolutely on the farmer, or the contractor doing the work, to clean the road. They should be running a rotary brush down the road regularly for the duration of the job.

Is there a Digester in your area? Sounds more like their m.o.
Law unto themselves, some of those boys. I'd stay clear of any area they're operating in.

Not that I'm trying to scare you, or anything Wink

Standard for a Qashqai. Nissan install an Arsehole behind the wheel before they leave the factory.

Only 3 things in life are certain. Death, Taxes and lesbians will never look how they do in porn movies.

I didn't actually make a connection, but yes I am aware of at least one Digester. It's just off one of my main routes & it would require a long detour so it looks like I'm stuck with it.

Boomer, maybe you could compile a glossary of cyclist hand gestures Wink
Had a few interesting ones from a chap in a yellow helmet this morning Big Grin

Edging out of a blind junction. Was well out before I could see him coming from the right. Pulled it into reverse too quick and the computer said fuck off. Had to hold the clutch down to reboot the transmission. By this time he's had to go round me, and he thinks I'm just sitting there like a cunt Blush

Good skills though, gesturing with both hands and still guiding the bike Cool

^^ Big Laugh I need to work on that one. Important

I'm happy to let go of the bars when there's no traffic around but he's taking a risk.
Going for a double gesture over the incident you've described seems uncalled for. I offer an up yours, wanker & fuck off, but never 2 at a time. He needs to chill his beans. Important

REDUCE SPEED NOW Important
Some lunatic this morning decided to use reverse logic & actually accelerated away from the warning sign & disappeared round a sweeping bend which have a junction off it. The junction has been widened out in an attempt to make it safer. I've lost count of the number of cars that have ended up in a dyke in this location.

A right pain in the butt. eek Chamois help & if I'm out for the day then I'll take the extra precaution of Chamois Cream which generally prevents any chaffing. Important

Trundlegate - Yorkshire Wolds

One of my local climbs, a cat 4, roughly 3 km distance & over 100 km rise, average gradient of 3.5%, which maxes out at 13% after about .5 km, I remember my front wheel lifting at this point.

Described as a tiny pig of a climb, locally known as The Devils Chimney.

On finishing the climb it's then a decent ride to the market town of Beverley, which hosted the British Cycling National Circuit Series this year, previous winners include Chris Lawless & Ed Clancy.

Unweighting
I'm not a big fan of the word itself, it sounds a little clumsy, clearly comes from the US. but without realizing I've been practicing unweighting, or at least one aspect/use of it. I'll lift my body weight off my bike, often shifting the load onto the rear wheel. I do this to reduce the impact on bumpy roads, speed bumps & railway level crossings are an extreme example. I've read one article that mentions potholes, but I'd suggest riding around them or jumping over them. If you're on a road bike & don't see a pothole you'll be lucky to avoid a puncture, & if you're weight is centralized or favouring the front wheel in can really jar your shoulders, that's if you manage to stay on your bike.
In pro cycling unweighting is a method used to take the load off the legs on a climb, & the improve balance when cornering. The technique of taking weight off the pedals during the cycling motion can improve efficiency & reduce fatigue.
