BSkyB was the company that was formed when Sky Television merged with British Satellite Broadcasting in 1990. BSkyB is the company that owns and operates Sky television.

News Corporation currently owns 39% of BSkyB, and was seeking to buy the remaining 61% that it didn't own before it withdrew its offer following the fallout over its role in the 'phone hacking' scandal. News Corporation has always been a major shareholder in BSkyB, but it has never been a majority shareholder.

Rupert Murdoch's family personally owns around 29% of News Corporation, although because not all shares issued are voting shares (ie. some shares are only entitled to receive dividends rather than also having voting rights), the 29% of shares the Murdoch family do own (which are all voting shares) effectively gives him majority control (ie. over 50%) over the company's decisions.

Actually the footprint of most of the channels at 28.5 degrees etc can be quite easily viewed across most of Europe and future. I have friends in France Holland Belgium and Luxembourg who all have Sky boxes and daily watch the channels including our babe channels!

With a bigger dish our troops in Iraq have been able to watch the sport channels quite easily with special subscriptions.

An the radio station I worked for still has daily satellite listeners from their 28.5 broadcasts as far as Italy, Monaco, France and especially in Germany.

I really don't care what anyone else thinks!!! Lovely beautiful Honey Scott IS my favourite very cute bundle of yummy Marshmallow Fluff!!! <3

RE: Is censorship a necessary evil
As I've mentioned before, after 9pm Adult content is allowable under the current guidelines, however when you have dedicated Adult channels in a dedicated EPG SKY slot, i ask myself what on earth is all the fuss and bother about, and why Ofcom have got a bee in there bonnets about all of this?
I could understand if these free to air adult channels would be on after the BBC channels, and quite rightly some sort of censorship would have to be implemented. So by rights censorship should be a lot more relaxed concerning the SKY babe channels.
For one thing, you can't stumble on these channels by accident, its an impossibility, you have to physically either input or select the adult section to view these channels. So I'm quite frankly at a loss as to why Ofcom feel the need to protect us from seeing a woman's pussy, its as simple as that.
The irony to all of this, is that the majority of teenagers have smartphones/computers etc etc and they can access hardcore porn walking on there way to school quite easily with there handsets, yet
Ofcom feels the need to keep the general public safe and secure just in case we happen to stumble on a lesbian 241 or incase they open there legs and show there pussy's?? Oh here's the classic useless defence of Ofcom, it might cause wide and harmful offence mmmh let me think about this for a moment. From the hrs of say 10-5.30am when most of the population are asleep, well that argument is floored from the start.
At the end of the day, i really hope the government will deregulate Ofcom, and in doing so, allow the Adult population to make there own choices to watch what they want to watch in there own homes.

And back to the satellite footprint thingy, for well less than £100 from places like Maplin (other outlets may also be able to supply you!) you can get a cheap free to air receiver and dish to watch channels at 13 and 19.2 degrees showing sometimes more explicit trailers and other stuff in the clear even in the daytime than you can see here at night.

When I was a kid, the sexually content of some of the Friday late night horror movies on the old ATV (Appointment With Fear?) were more explicit than what we have on our tv channels now!

No wonder Mr Tiswas Peter Tomlinson ATV's Friday night announcer used to get so excited lol!

Without getting 'techy' about it, it's worth noting that Astra 2A broadcasts on 28.2E and it's Eurobird 1 that uses 28.5E. Most of the Sky channels are on Astra 2A and can therefore only be seen over the British Isles, but you're right that there are some channels that the Sky box picks up that are actually broadcast from Eurobird 1, which has a wider 'footprint' that covers the countries you've mentioned.

The two satellites are close enough in the sky that a dished aligned to 28.2E will still pick up the signal from a satellite at 28.5E.

Only when Ofcom go might we see a return to the days of anything goes TV, it's not just the babe channels that are feeling the wrath of Ofcom it's every channel.

I would be careful wishing ofcom gone as much as I hate them with this goverment I dont trust them to put anything in place that would be better infact it would be worse there a reason the they are called the nasty party

To be honest as far as Ofcom are concerned I don't trust either political party.

Historically Labour have tried to stifle any kind of commercial non BBC broadcasting, the last Labour government being the only one to buck that trend, but the mass expansion of radio and satellite tv had been that great by 1997 that it would have been impossible this time for them to go backwards as technology was overtaking legislation so fast.

In the 60's and 70's Labour had done everything in it's power to crush, closedown or by the 70's stop any expansion of commercial radio and certainly would not have let satellite commercial tv expand and rule the roost as it now does.

And having dealt with the old very less than transparent Radio Authority back in the late 90's on 3 local radio applications I was involved with many questionable decisions were made with that particular licensing junta seeming unanswerable to no one.

So I'm afraid from experience I don't trust Ofcom and their unbalanced decisions regardless of what particular party might be in power.

It may be unrelated, or could be a sign of just how feeble the adult market is that Sky 931 VIP Power Hours is showing Flirt Exchange at the moment intercut with ads for Psychic Live on Android phones. Thats an adult channel gone over to fully clothed presenters and ads for another genre.

Gone fishing

RE: Is Censorship A Necessary Evil?
To be honest there are a few channels sub letting output at various times of the day and night and it's always happened with satellite tv from long before the babe channels existed.

The radio station I worked for still has shows which are bought airtime and overnight shows from a completely seperate station.

Babestation has all the commercial presentation stuff at certain parts of the day and in fact if I remember correctly, were the psychic shows on Sky all sort of born out of the original Babestation channel anyway?

Any as I guess phone traffic is always bound to be less and quieter during the day it makes good business sense hiring out some of the out of hours airtime.
