i know how you feel, starting a job when you dont know anybody is very intimidating, my tip is to be confident in yor self, not over confident cuz no one likes an arrogant knob. secondly try inviting some people( men and women) from your work out for a drink with the purpose of getting to know one-an-other and if they had a good time they will invite you to do things outside work.

Echo what Boomer said, being yourself is the most important thing. Maybe keep it basic at the moment. Gauge the people you might actually like, ask questions, listen and take it all in. When you get a nice vibe from people then suggest drinks. Friday's are always a good day as people are open to suggestions.

i see making friends is difficult.

at work, whilst working, people are 'too busy' and 'just need to get this done'. yet they have no problem talking to others.

at work, after finishing, they say they're 'too tired' to hang out somewhere, or they're 'meeting a friend tonight' (common excuse), yet with others they say 'yeah! just give me five minutes to put this away'.

at work, when trying to engage in convo, they don't make eye contact, give short replies, and if there's a silence i'm always the one having to f**king break it, otherwise it's complete silence.

at work, in offering in leaving the office with them, they either 'have got to get this finished' or 'need to go to the toilet, i see you tommorrow'

at work, in offering lunch (usually this is done by sending an invite on microsoft outlook calendar), they don't respond.

at work, in asking if they like to go out, they don't respond. it seems like it's a crime to have such a thought.

this can apply to other envionments too.

whilst commuting, i don't know whether i'm the only person in the bloody universe who doesn't have an iphone or blackberry - it seems nearly everyone on the train has one, tapping away on their messaging or facebook or whatever. yet with me, noone calls or texts me, my facebook is dead silent, and if i try and write to someone they either don't reply or cut off contact like what happened last year.

i really don't understand how people can have so many 'plans', going out to places, how do they arrange it, because when i try i'm always met with no reply (90%) or excuses (10%). i will admit though, one fault on my part is that it seems i never have anything witty or creative to say, and when i try and think of something, my mind just blanks.

if i was to 'be myself', i'll be far too much negative company to be around, considering at home life consists of daily arguments and fights within the family, and it's just too expensive to move out i can't afford it. as for dating, i shall summarise it with this: women are absolutely racist.

i just got my first pay (30% taxed off, WTF!?). but what good is the money if you can't go out and enjoy life with friends etc if you don't really have any and simply cannot get any. sometimes i think i'm totally invisible to civilisation. and these feel worst on friday evenings and saturdays when normally everyone else is out doing stuff except me. noone acknowledges me here.
